  • Sturdy looking fork.

  • Just passing by... Here are some photos of mine. If I'm not wrong it's the second on the famous family picture posted on this topic a while ago.

  • It’s Somec weather...

  • Stunning frame and paint! The saddle and bars + shifters angles seem to need some attention though

  • Ha thanks. I’ll bite - saddle is comfortable for me this angle so that’s staying , bars? Do tell. And shifters? Please elaborate.

This is a bike for riding not just for show so it’s got to feel comfortable for my riding and body type etc

  • Your levers should come up a fair bit, this is the way to get a good starting point.
Your bars should rotate forward so the flat part of the drops is either horizontal or pointing towards the rear brake bridge.
You can try lowering your saddle so you don't feel the need to tilt it forward this much.
Or you could just do whatever you want and leave it like this, at least you're riding it

  • Fantastic, thanks.

Edit: these bars are a bit tricky to fit as they don’t have much curl(?). My other bike has Nitto Noodle bars which are imo much nicer, almost a half circle shape. Might switch to those for more comfort for riding the tops

  • I posted that pic 187453739 times :-)

@schleazy if it's a flat transition between ramp and hood you're after look at Nitto M106 or M151.

  • Both those models look great, very similar to the one I’ve been using, which is the M177 I think. Fantastic bars, I guess only slight differences between the three

  • Looks very similar to mine.

  • That's the M151. Compact and flat on the top.

  • Amazing, Somec twins. Yep almost the same bike, slightly different fork but yeah the rest very similar.

@Lolo thanks that looks great. Compact flat-tops might be the one to try next

  • Well I've dribbled and lusted after a Somec since I don't know when. So finally ones in the post. I might be living on HUEL, but I'm happy. Hope all's good guys, I know I've not been on here much. I've been working on an escape plan from the 9 to 5... You can deny yourself things for all of your life, but then before you know it, it's too late. So who cares!

  • @BernardRenault looks amazing, congrats. Post more pics when you can, looks like the same fork as mine - such a beaut!

Bars now fixed and feel wayyyy better, both when riding the tops (funnily enough) but also when hands are in the drops. Cheers guys (admittedly an idiot mistake on my part)../

  • Good to hear! Looks way better:)

  • Very elegant, I love. that blue the chain sets bang on too, I went cornetto on wheels, but equally like the excess! The seller was great he just said these have a soul that modern bikes lack, I think he nailed it. A classic steely he said always makes your heart melt. I loved that.

  • Ohh that is lovely

  • Lovely! Hope you're gonna replace those red wheels? ;)

  • It's only the tyres no?

  • I can't see anything else past those tyres...
    They make me blind

  • Oh yes, I'm sure they are all the rage in Hungary, but they are going when it lands! I don't like coloured rubber, use that elsewhere in life if you have to! It looks a bit like the circus is in town at the mo.

  • Couple more... sunglasses optional.

  • Thanks @schleazy a few things will have to wait, but the tyres are going. I have some nice Campag on GP4's which could get round the wheel issue for a bit.

  • Really a beautiful frame!
