Wouldn’t use one of these if my life depended on it. Unfortunately a friend’s partner did...

It's pretty secured and I have used one before.
Put it this way, if they want your bike, they'll get it...

my bike got stolen last july (it was an organised mass theft from the bike store in our block of flats) and i recently got a tip off about this seller on a hungarian site:
https://www.jofogas.hu/magyarorszag?account_list_id=22e6e17ce8f2e670513e5ed86cdcfa3e&o=1
anyone who has recently had a bike stolen in london might be worth having a look and seeing if yours is on here. i suspect the seller is still in london.
edit: my bike is on this site and i've reported it to the police but i'm not sure they'll be able to do very much

Very interesting. Thanks for the heads-up. That kind of transport between countries has been talked about for some time. I heard it started for bicycles (has obviously been a thing with (expensive) cars and motorbikes for decades) in the mid-00s when some work was done on stolen bikes being shipped to other cities, and thieves adapted accordingly (but it may well have been going on for much longer, of course).
Sadly not much hope of getting yours back, but you never know.

Interesting, know about mc going abroad, often Estonia/Lithuania/Latvia/Belarus kind of area, again these things could be investigated and a few people collared, they'll start back up again but it is possible to reduce this trafficking of stolen items, we live on an island after all.
So many higher end MTB's are going missing from around central Scotland, and many never turn up again, even years later people still search and not much luck, suspect they are going over to the continent too. -

my Specialized Tarmac Sport 16 was stolen from outside the Royal Free
Hospital last night. Black with red and white decals. I’m a medical
doctor on the Covid rota and the bike was stolen during my 12 hour
shift yesterday. 2 Kryptonite D locks sawn through.https://twitter.com/CardioJames/status/1249239466222501889
Sawed through two d locks. Outside a hospital. Amazing.

I'm a mechanic in a shop that is pretty much in middle of 2 hospitals, but folk who live here usually work at one of the other hospitals in the city or are healthcare in one way or another. Tend to be fitter/more active persons and tend to cycle to work.
Why the hell aren't hospital trusts getting proper bike stores (the steel locking kind parked next to a main entrance where a security person usually is to be found) and allowing their staff to use them? You do occasionally find a hospital that has one, but locks are rusty/no one is allowed to have a key/security fed up of sending would be thieves packing (surely their job?).
Number of thefts round here from outside hospitals/healthcare centres is high. -

Today seen some lady riding S-Works with funky paint job and deeeeeep Zipps with Shimano SPD pedals.
Really don't think it belonged to her.
It was around Olympic Park.

• #14972
Did it have purple / blue colour changing metallic paint?
-
• #14973
I don't think it was that colour.
It was more in this style:
https://www.ciclisport.com/3399/products/specialized-s-works-peter-sagan-ltd-edition-venge-frameset.aspxAll I know for sure that it was Sworks with deep Zipps with white stickers and Shimano mtb pedals.

Thanks, doesn't look like it was my friend's then, also checked and theirs had Enve wheels not Zipp.

The anount of thefts from hospitals at the moment is mind-boggling. Flipping organised crime is a gas innit, po-po & hopitals seem to be oblivious.
Watch out folks having a bike theft spree in Glasgow just now, fueled by massive increase in demand for used bikes and more folk out and about leaving them without maybe as rigerous locks.
