Does Roon support Sonos?
Interestingly, it does! Sonos kit is fully supported by Roon. The
maximum quality audio Sonos hardware can receive is CD-quality,
48kHz/16bit but, as with AirPlay, the Roon Core will downsample higher
bitrate streams automatically to fit. From here: https://www.whathifi.com/advice/roon-everything-you-need-to-know

Got this plugged in. Tried it direct from the DAC, mostly for the sake of not having to having to find space for my integrated amp. That didn’t sound good so pre-amped it from my integrated. Now need to rearrange the whole kit so the power amp can get enough airflow. You could make toast on it. So far it seems like it pushes the mids even further forward which sounds a bit aggro through the Klipsch. I’ll see how I settle in with it.

Oh thanks for checking it out for me.
After a bit of googling I might get a Chromecast audio to replace the Sonos Play:5

If you can find a Chromecast audio.
They are out of production aren't they?

• #7909
the fucker keeps dropping out

That’s not ideal. Our flat is a weird WiFi killer, the Sonos kept cutting out until I hooked up the Bridge.
See how the Chromecast gets on. Maybe I’ll have that connect in the end...

i think it is the wifi here, too. it was great in our flat.
the thing that is shitting me up - when i open spotify on my laptop, it can't see the CCA. i need to open spotify on my phone and play it through the CCA, then take over on my laptop

That digital thing, it seems that discussion is as polarised and grumpy wherever you find it. I'm not married to my ideas, while I remain unconvinced that there's nothing in it, it seems that its not the best place to be looking for an advantage. Maybe its placebo, I realised when I went to bed that I hadn't had a nicotine patch on all day and had felt fine - it's a real thing. Anyhow, I think I can stop thinking about it.

@StevePeel did you order that cd drive before or after lockdown? Wondering how long it’ll get to me if I order it this week?
-
• #7914
Yes it came next day. I think the delivery date was the deciding factor for the one I chose. Still saying next day delivery for my area. You might not want a USB-C one though.
-
• #7915
I’ve found an adaptor, and the usb 3.0 ones are ugly top loaders which I’d prefer to avoid. Will order tomorrow and see what happens.
-
• #7916
I'd take this if it's still available?
-
• #7917
Now he ^ wants it, it makes me want it. Realised I’ll have to use two different apps for radio and Spotify.
-
• #7918
You can have it if you make our kitchen for half the normal price
-
• #7919
I’ve not quoted you have I...?
Normal price is 80k

Not expensive enough for the golf club thread

@bainbridge, it's yours. Whereabouts do you live?
PM me?

Can someone talk me through this one? Signal output from the DAC (4v), it has its own digital volume control which is currently bypassed for full output. It goes through the integrated amplifier preamp stage, which is passive it turns out. Should I expect a difference between the output attenuation from the DAC and the volume pot on the preamp? Are they doing exactly the same thing?
-
• #7923
DAC volume is likely to be in digital domain. I would imagine you are best off set up as current, with DAC vol bypassed and using the analogue gain control on pre amp.
-
• #7924
Thought so, ta. It sounds comparatively dull DAC-direct.

i may have sourced a pair of mint cabs for the cheviots! they are fucking miles away, though...
Sorry, I have no idea about Roon with Sonos. You can definitely add Tidal as a music service.
Note that it will not do High-Res stuff.
