Great lateral thinking or a sign that the Japanese were focusing more on the Olympic Games than the virus? After all they were the second country to report a case from memory so have had plenty of time to prepare.

Japanese city urges citizens to donate raincoats
The Japanese city of Osaka is urging its residents to donate plastic raincoats to help hospitals that are running short of personal protective equipment.Mayor Ichiro Matsui said some health workers had resorted to wearing rubbish bags when treating patients.
"If doctors get infected, we can never beat coronavirus," Mr Matsui said, adding that there was a severe shortage of protective gear.
A notice on the Osaka city website said any colour and style of raincoat was acceptable - as long as they were meant for adults, Reuters news agency reported.
Osaka has nearly 900 cases, making it the second hardest-hit after Tokyo, according to media reports.
A state of emergency was imposed in Tokyo and six other areas, including Osaka, last week. Japan has confirmed more than 8,000 cases and 166 deaths.

Japan only has 166 deaths?!
With such an old population that can't be right, Shirley?
Edit. Fuck me, it's true. Although their confirmed cases seems suspiciously low too.

Domestic violence:
That's just deaths--you'd expect the rates of injury and other violence to have increased, too. Not to mention that there may well be quite a few divorces after the crisis.

As I was out for a ride in the beautiful evening sunshine last night, allowing my mind to roam, a thought occurred to me.
I wonder if any of the Tories who are looking at this death toll and this huge load of spending are rethinking their view on inheritance tax?
Probably not, as they still think that the good rich people's offsprings are the best hope for making the lives of the bad poor people better and they should be paid for it, I suppose.

they are more likely thinking about solving social care issues by just letting old people die unprotected untested and uncared for in substandard nursing homes
thats more their modus operandi
