Anyone used/using the cheap eBay speed/cadence sensors with their Garmin?
I have a genuine speed sensor but it’s on my track bike which is locked down at work so was thinking about buying one to keep track of my roller workouts at home.

They have always worked ok for me on different bikes, sorry but I do not have a specific link.
EDIT
Possibly these IIRC -

I used one like this: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32986056403.html?gps-id=pcDetail404&scm=1007.16891.96945.0&scm_id=1007.16891.96945.0&scm-url=1007.16891.96945.0&pvid=a62c89ae-4fd0-45c9-b40c-d2780f34806a&_t=gps-id:pcDetail404,scm-url:1007.16891.96945.0,pvid:a62c89ae-4fd0-45c9-b40c-d2780f34806a,tpp_buckets:668%230%23131923%2320_668%23808%233772%23995_668%23888%233325%232
and it worked fine. Only issue was getting speed sensor close enough to the magnet on the rear wheel with my CX frame and big clearances. -

It paired ok and everything?
I’d probably go for one of the hub mounted ones, seems easiest to swap between bikes and most out of the way.

• #1633
Good to know, cheers.

Have gone for one of these.
Decided on that one by price but also because it has a brand name, Cycplus. Never heard of them before but I always think that with these knock off/cheap alternative things I’d rather go for something that someone thinks is good enough to put a name on.
Will report on how it works once it arrives.
Anyone know if my head unit (edge25) will detect that this is a different speed sensor than I have previously used and want to do the ride outside in a straight line thing again?
-
• #1635
Yes, worked with Edge 25 and 530 no problem.

Wahoo app says Bluetooth is disabled when it’s not. I’ve done a phone network reset. Still the same, I’ve followed this https://support.wahoofitness.com/hc/en-us/articles/115001573810-ELEMNT-Bluetooth-Troubleshooting-for-iOS
Any suggestions? -
• #1637
Perhaps Settings > scroll down to find ELEMNT app settings > see if Bluetooth is disabled for this app specifically?

Garmin 520 plus still a decent thing to buy in 2020? Worth extra £50 to go to a 530 (not sure if plus?).
520+ coming up cheaper from suppliers.
Needs to work with existing stuff, have both a garmin and a 3rd party brand hrm, cadence and wheel speed, think I have a genuine garmin cadence and hub sensor too but not been used for like 5 years.
Battery life not a big issue, doubt any road ride will be more than 4 to 6 hoursEdit, bought a 530, 520+ seemed like people of the internet hated it. Probably does way way more than I need it for, but a fancy gadget/carrot might temp me out onto the roads a bit more.

How are you finding it so far?
Where did you get it from and how much did you pay?
-
• #1640
530 is good.
If you do not need to zoom and pan around on maps much.

I'm a bike shop so ordered it trade, cheapest I've ever seen them (all of £40 less than regular), but would suggest when you see them for £220/230 online, those shops are either making negative £2 or they are making money buy they somehow don't pay uk vat.....
Not here yet. -
• #1642
As soon as it drops below £200 I'm going to snap one up.
-
• #1643
Unfortunately doubt they will go below £220/230 until it is superseded by a new machine.

So I can’t install Garmin Express on my new (to me) laptop. It’s saying I don’t have admin privileges, but I’m logged in as admin.
-
• #1645
Run the installer as Admin
Right click it and "Run as Administrator"

Thanks that worked. I’m dumb with computers, and this is my first non-Mac in over a decade.
-
• #1647
Not at all. You managed to follow a simple instruction. That already puts you in the 97th intelligence percentile of 'people receiving computing instructions'. Actually 98th percentile because you provided confirmation that the instructions worked. ;)
-
• #1649
There's now very good deals [£172 for unit only] directly from Garmin if you go via this link and follow instructions. Also good deal on some others besides 530.

Got it working, thank you
Usually tonnes on FB marketplace or Facebook running selling groups. Can most likely get one for sub £50
