Used to pick fruit as a teenager, the only others picking were kids, geriatrics, travellers and Eastern Europeans. This was before the fall of the Berlin wall, so these guys weren’t working legally.
Traditionally this work was largely performed by itinerant labour largely bolstered by the Roma and Irish traveller communities.
British people haven’t wanted this work for a couple of centuries.

Not all those jobs are like that. But then it is basically legal exploitation if they don't set fair wages and living conditions for the people they fly in.
