A Chance To Own A Piece Of Mercian Cycling History Mercian Track Frame 22.5” Owned By Olympic Cyclist Billy Holmes

Unfortunately, this is too small hence why it is up for sale.

This frame came from a veteran Hull cyclist who is a life long friend of the Olympic cyclist Billy Holmes. Billy Holmes give this frame to his friend back in the day. It can be clearly seen that the bike Billy is riding and this frame are the same. The frame due to its age, has at some stage in its live been repainted and would benefit from a restoration to bring it back to its former glory.

The frame is a classic Mercian Track frame which can be seen from the beautiful lug work. The seat tube is 22.5” 57cm from centre to top and the top tube is 22” 56cm from centre to centre.

I am looking for £300 before it goes on eBay, it can be collected from Bow, nearest tube Bromley by Bow or I can meet up centrally alternatively it can be sent by Parcelforce for cost.

Re Billy Holmes track frame. My name is Ellis Thackray, originally from Hull and I rode with Hull Couriers, now Cottingham Couriers, Pete Dunn’s team. I trained with Billy as a lad and knew his sister Micky well. I am most interested in the frame if it is Billy’s and would be happy to pay the price asked in cash. I will restore it and hopefully to original colours if known.

Just out of curiosity who was the Hull cyclist who had it. I rode for Hull Thursday BITD and worked at Cliff Pratt Cycles in the 70's and Billy Holmes used to pop in being the Falcon rep. He got me my Falcon frames :)
