  • I think it's the Tories up to their old tricks of fucking up and trying to cover their arses with the people who will actually vote for them.

NHS Scotland were told they're not allowed to big against NHS England for supplies and that it would be coordinated centrally. Then this happens and Hancock goes to ground.

    Pretty disgusting really.

  • Sounds about right - when this entire shit storm is over the political fall out will last for years, the Tories handling of the whole situation has been a shambles - we had warnings for months before this all kicked off that were ignored & instead we employed the old keep calm & carry on attitude until it was far too late...

Scottish Health Secretary was apparently due to speak with Hancock to clarify the PPE issue & he cancelled the call - things must be bad if they're running out of excuses.

  • This is bad. You wouldn't want to use PPE that had been in contact with Matt Hancock, you don't know where he's been

  • For someone that loves publicly agonising over the most passing of non-pc comments and memes, you seem to be awfully fucking glib about your government literally denying life saving resources to constituent parts of the United Kingdom.

    Absolute worstcunt.

  • Northern Ireland literally doesn't exist, hah.

At least ROI is helping us out.

  • It's the ideological thumbing of the nose at ample EU-procured ventilators and PPE that boils my piss. All so a few gammons can revel in Barbour churning out scrubs and Dyson getting his sticky fingers into the NHS supply chain as if they're re-living the blitz.

  • just saw this... ha!

  • Just catching up, I’m really sorry to hear this buddy

  • I'm not saying that we shouldn't have joined the EU procurement scheme but they are also struggling in acquiring ventilators.

  • well that sucks.

    sterkte.

  • This glorious Union, eh?

Fake news according to the Scots themselves
    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-52279578

The suggestion of PPE being diverted to England from Scotland had earlier in the day been dismissed by the Scottish government's clinical director.

Prof Jason Leitch, speaking on the Good Morning Scotland programme, said: "We have looked into it and we think it's rubbish.

Sorry if that doesn't fit with your nationalist playbook.

  • N.b. I agree with you about this

I think it's the Tories up to their old tricks of fucking up and trying to cover their arses with the people who will actually vote for them.

But bringing the union into it is conflating two things.

  • Trump's been in the media seizing PPE from France, Germany, Canada and acting like a pirate, so l... What do we all think about UK PPE supply

What I think about UK PPE supply the U.S. allegedly seizing German masks didn't actually happen
    https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/apr/03/mask-wars-coronavirus-outbidding-demand

The German reports said the masks had been made by a Chinese producer for the US company 3M, but the firm issued a statement on Friday night saying: “3M has no evidence to suggest 3M products have been seized. 3M has no record of any order of respirators from China for the Berlin police. We cannot speculate where this report originated.”

    .

Ironic because Govt also seized testing kits already allocated to Scotland and said Scot NHS not allowed to bid for its own kits or ventilators.

The Scottish Government themselves have also denied this:

We get it, you're a Scottish Nationalist, but can you just stop with the posting fake news on the thread, please?

  • In the context where 47 Scottish MPs represent the SNP and 6 represent the Tories I think the electoral mathematics speak for themselves about where Johnson's priorities are.

  • The commission put out a statement yesterday that suppliers provided more PPE than they initially requested. Why not focus on that?

  • Statement also said it’s being delivered within the next 14 days.

  • Jesus. You're in such a rush to be smug that you don't even know what you are posting. The Tweet you linked to says that the Scottish Government denied it had given permission for the UK parliament to dictate their testing regimes and to assume control of procurement.

The statement posted in the tweet does not deny that tests had been diverted, but asserts that it will continue to source and conduct its own tests. Sturgeon has said the Government are investigating, and seeking reassurances from Hancock. Hancock cancelled that meeting, then Sunak came out in full denial mode later in the day.

Obviously, with Hancock's track record it isn't a desirable or politically expedient thing to be chained to Tory policy when people's lives are at stake. Health is a devolved area, Public Health England and Westminster have no purview over the Scottish NHS. So, out of two of us, who the fuck is the one posting fake news by trying to pass that tweet off as something it's not? Welcome to the world of BBC style reportage and whatever shite interpretation of 'facts' you come up with.

Edit: here's a sky news report giving context to the actual Scottish Government denial (not the misleading description of it in the tweet you linked to) that it had acquiesced to Whitehall taking the lead on deciding who gets testing kits, hope that's real enough for you, ignorant prick.

  • Because he'd already said that and I wasn't disagreeing with it.

  • We get it, you're a Scottish Nationalist, but can you just stop with the posting fake news on the thread, please?

Just waiting for you to quote your sister as proof the SNP are Nazis because she lives in Aberdeen and someone frowned at her once upon a time you tedious edgelord.

  • Haha sorry in that case, didn’t read carefully enough

  • Sorry if that doesn't fit with your nationalist playbook.

I literally posted a screenshot from one of the primary UK PPE suppliers saying they will not supply Scottish or Welsh orgs on instruction from PHE.

Tell me where that comes from a "nationalist playbook"?

  • Wouldn’t the Scottish equivalent of PHE be securing their own suppliers? Gompels employed 65 people as of last July - I doubt they’ve cornered the market.

  • Gompels is a private company, used by all devolved nations until April 1st when it suddenly seems to have acted on instruction from Whitehall not to sell to anyone other than PHE.

The Times reported that "Scottish Care, which represents the independent social care sector, claimed that the UK's four largest PPE suppliers had stopped sending orders to Scotland". Gompels own website supports that claim.

Scotland does source its own equipment, for instance in getting Covid tests and equipment from South Korea that PHE refused and setting up testing stations to deliver these, to but if four of the biggest suppliers in the UK decide to abruptly stop providing this service it's going to cause disruption-isn't that obvious?
