  • Depends why you mean by semi? Those kind of thinline electric shaped things made of plywood are the worst of all possible compromises I reckon. I’d love a jazzbox (fully hollow deep section electric) though.

  • Yeah like a Fender Thinline or Gretsch Streamliner type of thing. People seem to love Gibson 335s but I can't find anything about how they sound acoustically.

  • I've had a quick noodle on an unplugged 335 and a similar looking Gretsch. Wasn't mad about the way they sound. They're obviously louder than a solid body, but in a sort of nasally way. Better to hear what you're playing for sure, but not exactly a nice sound. Both were beautiful to play mind...

  • Oh cool, so like a hollow electric rather than an acoustic that's been shrunk to electric size. I getcha.

335s are louder than solid bodies but not much. They have a solid core with two hollow chambers either side. Epi Casinos and Gibson 330s are a similar shape and fully hollow so a bit louder acoustically but all were made to be played plugged in. The acoustic sound is kind of a by-product of the design and not a selling point.

    Edit: yep, what he said^
