335s are louder than solid bodies but not much. They have a solid core with two hollow chambers either side. Epi Casinos and Gibson 330s are a similar shape and fully hollow so a bit louder acoustically but all were made to be played plugged in. The acoustic sound is kind of a by-product of the design and not a selling point.

Depends why you mean by semi? Those kind of thinline electric shaped things made of plywood are the worst of all possible compromises I reckon. I’d love a jazzbox (fully hollow deep section electric) though.
