  • UK/Ireland comparison seems a bit off IMO.

  • The 23rd and 27th. It’s correct.

  • The recent twitter comparison was going by dates of cases in the country not actual date which is why you night feel there is a discrepancy

  • What's correct?

  • I was looking at the FT chart up there ^

Seems odd that it's indicating that the UK government are being shown as more stringent than the Irish one. Had a quick glance over the data and one of the measures where the UK scored better was 'Cancel Public Events'.

  • Relevant to Ireland/UK comparisons: "Experts divided over comparison of UK and Ireland's coronavirus records | Coronavirus outbreak | The Guardian" https://amp.theguardian.com/world/2020/apr/13/experts-divided-comparison-uk-ireland-coronavirus-record

  • They really could have picked out some different colours, my eyesight is pretty good but not sure what I'm looking at..

So, all deaths have sharply risen compared with 5 year average but by more than can be associated from covid alone, although covid does represent a significant amount?

  • Yeah that’s a chart that’s crying out for an summary title.

Or maybe just a good old table of numbers.

  • The spike in all deaths looks greater than the spike for Covid deaths. What is the delta?

  • There were 6082 more deaths than the 5-year average in the week ending 3 April.
Covid-19 was mentioned on 3475 death certificates.

This does not mean that only 3475 deaths were the result of Covid-19.

Some of those additional excess deaths may have been the result of the virus but not logged as Covid-related because of a lack of testing.

Some of those additional excess deaths may have occurred because of a lack of hospital capacity, thanks to the ICUs being full.

    Here’s the data: https://www.ons.gov.uk/file?uri=%2fpeoplepopulationandcommunity%2fbirthsdeathsandmarriages%2fdeaths%2fdatasets%2fweeklyprovisionalfiguresondeathsregisteredinenglandandwales%2f2020/referencetablesweek14202013042020165839.xlsx

  • It doesn’t say that.

Wasn't their excuse "oh we missed the email", then the EU said "it's fine you can still join", and then the government went "oh... well actually... naaaah".

  • Roughly overlaid 2019 in an equally ambiguous colour as I was interested to see how much deviation there is in another year compared to a smoothed out 5 year average

    (((Social distance man hugs)))
I am assuming you are a man..

  • I am assuming you are a man..

  • family in Italy have other worries. All elderly uncle’s brothers livelihood (olive groves).. blighted by deadly Xylella in their province.. not much of their legacy remains after several generations of cultivation.

  • I think the discrepancy in hospital/actual deaths is going to be argued about for some time as a matter of political expediency.

Care home deaths for example are going to be huge-one home in Glasgow had 13 people die in a day, but because they didn't get tested or die in hospital they're not counted.

  • Brother in law is furloughed from oil work so doing farming and fruit picking as he can't stand being in the house all the time. Think there's a huge amount of crops going to go unpicked without EU workers however.

  • Virtual manhugs is all I do these days.. Uber_Gruber

If anyone wants to show me how to do virtual non gender hug, like a millenial.. I’m happy to learn.

  • blighted by deadly Xylella in their province

Is that something that 'just happens' sometimes, or is that due to them not being able to go out and take some kind of precautionary measures?

  • Our interim august wedding plan is to not invite evening guests, that added to people who will likely not be travelling from outside UK/ireland brings us just below 100, going to hope that gatherings under 100 are ok by august.

we enquired about dates for next year but our venue currently don't yet know whether they're going to be opening next year so its all very ?????? right now
