  • Lyrik is the better fork regards of travel - fair bit stiffer than the Pike.

  • If it was you, would you swap to a 150mm Lyrik Ultimate?

I've another quandary, the bike is slated to come with Hunt Trail wide wheels, which have an RRP of ~£350 or so. I neither want nor need these wheels.

Hunt have announced their AM carbon wheels, which are available in 27.5 or 29 - at ~£850 or so.

The bike can run a mullet setup, although most of the reviews say that they prefer it as a 29er.

I'm wondering about asking if I could swap the pair of Trail Wide for a single, rear, 27.5 AM carbon.

One thing to consider on this - that rim is 28mm internal, whereas the Santa Cruz equivalent is 37mm internal. Strikes me that 28mm is a bit narrow to put a 2.6" tyre on.

    What think you, hive mind?

  • It’s only +150g for the Lyrik right? Should be stiff as hell in the lower travel setting with the added bushing overlap. It’s a great fork and the new 2021 upgrades (retrofittable) should make it even better...

Surely Pace can supply w/o wheels and adjust the price accordingly? Haven’t heard many positive comments for mullet setups outside of DH. I’d stick to 29” personally.

  • I'll ask if I can swap to the Lyrik - thanks. I had seen the 2021 upgrades, may as well ask Pace to do that before they ship it.

I was thinking about mullet purely for Morzine. On the price - I paid for the bike months ago. Mind you, there may be some price difference for the fork, which I'd happily sacrifice those wheels for.

Response from Pace: The Pike is more appropriate to the RC295 given it’s a lightweight medium travel trailbike. The Lyric is more suited to longer travel Enduro Bikes so is a heavier duty and burlier product.

They go on to say that they therefore don't offer it as an option, but I have asked if they could possibly make an exception, and referenced the Tallboy (130mm Pike) and the Hightower (150mm Lyrik) as examples. We shall see, if it comes with the Pike I'm sure it'll be fine.

  • I've got a RS revelation on my full susser, which uses the same chassis as the pike. Honestly, it's excellent, even with the older internals.

  • If it's offered in the same length travel isn't intended use a bit of a moot point? Probably just reflects what they have in stock I'm guessing? Like you say, Pike will be fine at the end of the day.

  • I'm hoping that the length of delay from order to now might push them toward ordering a Lyrik, but we shall see. Still no ETA for the bike.

  • ETA in an email today- by June 15th.

  • So I stupidly managed to somehow drop a grommet into my frame when fitting a new set of cables. Are grommets frame specific or universal? And if so where can I purchase them. I've tried Google already but none of them look right.

  • Anyone know if this course can be ridden when it's not sanctioned as an event?

  • I guess not from the text in the block to the left of the map? ‘Private land’ and ‘do not trespass outside of event’
I feel like I’d get lost doing that event!

  • I think you may have a larger screen than I do - I can't read the text.

    Also, bugger.

  • Yeh the bit under the red header box says about not going outside the race and following marked routes. It looks good though! Are they fully signed when you get out on the course?

  • I think so, little difficult to tell as the official website owners appear to have forgotten to pay the bill to their hosting company.

I'd love to have a crack at it, and beforehand some similar trails.

  • How's your manual coming along?

I very nearly ordered one of the manual machine things you have a while ago. I decided against it in the end.
But I feel like I broke through a barrier today.
Theres a pub car park a few minutes away from the house, since lock down I've been going round most evenings with my 6 year old daughter. We race around it... its actually quite good fun.
Had the idea about a week ago to go back round on my lonesome and try make an attempt at manuals. I can pop and sustain a wheelie for a reasonable distance but I started off last week refining wheelies at very low speed and working on balance a bit more then started trying the manual motion.
Fast forward to today and I only bloody went and popped a manual and held it for about 3 seconds! I feel like I've finally got past a stage that I once thought I'd never get. Kinda felt like I'd just never be able to manual because my balance is so shit.
So I feel quite pleased that I got the hang of bending my knees to control it. I'm of course still very very shit at it but a new door has been opened.

There was a video on youtube I found after watching the Jeff Lenosky video above. I'll try find it.
But the chap gave a tip that I think was what helped me crack it today.
It was about the leaning back movement and how its like the way you would throw your self back onto a big comfy couch! Trying it on the bike was a revelation.

Annoyingly I cant find the couch manual video right now.

    But this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3cUTakfZT00

I found useful, the point about getting comfortable with looping out, then once you can loop out, practice using your knees to bring the wheel down instead of using the back brake.

Anyway this is getting a bit wordy now but thought I'd say since it was really seeing your manual machine clips that motivated me to give it a proper bash.

May your long smooth manuals prosper.

  • Great to hear that you've levelled up your manualing - and thanks for the advice.

I've been Zwifting and running since my last update on my own manual progress as I've got (what I think to be, can't go to the Dr for obvious reasons) something similar too tendinitis in my elbow, and when I throw my weight back to bring the bars up it hurts like hell.

Still hurts now, but actions such as picking up the kettle are much less painful, so hopefully it'll be fixed soon, although it is taking it's time about this.

In Pace news, they can fit a 2021 150mm Lyrik for an additional £130, which I've asked them to do.

    Full endooooro spec now!

What shock does the Pace come with?

  • Rockshox Deluxe RT3 Debonair 210x55 at the back, Rockshox Pike Ultimate 150mm at the front, stock.

I'm leaving the rear alone and changing the fork to the Lyrik Ultimate, again in 150mm.

    Rear travel is 135mm.

  • Rear shocks a bit cheap.

  • Compared to 21.5 acres of land, certainly

  • Lyriks are a good decision. Black or red?

Push shocks don't have the boutique air about them that they used to.

Check out EXT shocks when you decide to replace the rear shock. http://www.extremeshox.com/product/ext-storia-lok-v3-enduro-racing/
Custom valved to rider and frame and comes with two differently rated coil springs.

  • Black, I think that’ll go better with the frame.

Looking forward to trying them as the Megatower I had in the Alps last year ran a 160mm Lyrik, and it was definitely stiffer than my Fox 34’s- something you notice when landing at an angle on the front wheel where the 34’s can squirm a little.

I wonder how outgunned by the terrain the Pace will feel when I get to go to Morzine?
