Damn that sounds rough. Sorry to hear it.
16 isn't young but is she otherwise quite sprightly? I mean if she's been frail for a while then yeah you might be right just to let her off but if it's totally unexpected she might be fighting something? You could phone a vet and have a chat at least?

I think Fred might be dying. Breathing funny last night and now she's gone and lay down in the flower bed, doesn't want to be held or stoked, kind of wretching.
Dunno whether to try and get her to a vet. She's 16.
