  • Lots of offcuts

  • Sorry by chemicals I didnt mean caustic soda. Id like to try and keep the frame if poss etc.

    Penetrating fluid is on order.

  • Phew 👍🏻

  • Looks good enough in the first photo.

  • Spent the whole day fitting mudguards on the cycletruck. Now it is ready for all weather commuting.

  • Mega result! How’s it ride?

  • Project "going postal" is on: bought an old postal delivery bike two summers ago to use as a cheapo cyclotruck. Turns out that the front rack had broken of the frame and been re-welded at a funky angle. Decided to build my own rack instead and today I got my stick welder out of storage.

This will be the rattiest cyclotruck ever:

  • Dude.
You can't ride this. Please have someone help you set up your MIG welder. Not sure you have enough penetration to make it safe to ride.

Edit: sorry if I come across like an ass. Didn't mean to. But don't hurt yourself please.

  • It's a MMA welder not MIG. But I get your concern. I haven't done any welding in a couple of years so I'm quite rusty, will do some practice runs and then clean it up

  • Good. Stick welding can be a bit tricky on that thickness of tubing. But obviously it can be done. I hope you succeed.

  • Ah, so you got this. How do you like it?

  • It now has a chain and working brakes.

I've never gone single speed on a frame designed for a derailleur and I'm not clever enough to work these things out, so there's lots of experimenting going on. I've got a half link chain on the way too to see if I can improve tension without resorting to a specific tensioner.

Fitting a chain also revealed the chain line is way out despite looking ok to my (obviously wonky) eye. So that's on the list to fix too.

Thanks for the suggestions on the rear cable routing. I'm going to keep it as is for now, but keep an eye out for a neater fix.

Still umming and erring over grips too. I'll find something I like one day!

  • That is lovely

  • I'm not usually much of an "I'll fix that in post" person, but...

  • Yep, were you interested too? I only took it for a quick spin but it feels really good! Feels more like a touring bike than a mtb, very stable. I felt a bit bad for replacing my 26'' Inbred that I just bought and only did about 100km on but can't wait to strap some bags on the Piolet and take it for some offroad touring.

  • This looks amazing! Very clean build, did you go for 650b wheels?

  • Yep, were you interested too?

    Only without any real intentions.

can't wait to strap some bags on the Piolet and take it for some offroad touring.

That would be what I would use it for. Seems great for that! Enjoy.
