Mavic rear mech set up.

Posted on
  • Afternoon all.

I've just fitted a Mavic rear mech to my Aende lopro.
A kind chap on this forum supplied the magic missing washer. It fits fine but I'm uncertain if its correct as the bent tabs on said washer prevent the parallel plates on from swinging fore and aft as modern mechs would taking up chain tension.
All the tensionsing is done by the jockey wheel cage itself, rotating around it's own pivot.
    Is this correct?
I hope my explanation isn't to crappy.

  • Ie, the silver part of the mech shown above remains stationary during gear changes. It does not move fore and aft.
    Shifting seems to be fine.

  • The Mavic looks like other mechs from that era: Campag, Simplex , Huret, Zues and others. The body moves in and out only. I think it was the Japanese, either Suntour or Shimano who developed the modern derailleur where the body, now sitting more horizontal than vertical moves down and back as well as in and out.

  • Ah that sounds good then.
There's no other way it can work. It looks nicer than the Shimano 600 tricolour I had on it before.

  • I have two of the original washers, the one you have is an exact copy of those :)
Looks like you have it set up correctly to me.

  • Yep, it worked a treat once bent. Thanks again for letting me have one.
That mech looks nice on there.

  • Can I grab one of these please?

  • Ah sorry man - I'm in Argentina, all my parts are in storage. No idea when I'll be back because of --current situation-- however if it's soon I will send you a message
