  • Not all the same, no. It appears some do upscaling and others output a 480p signal over HDMI.

I still can't tell if that's a shill site or not. I got an upscaling converter and it's fine for my use.

  • Knackered my ankle on Wednesday night. Unable to bear weight on it still. Swollen, bruised. Don't know if it's a fracture or sprain.

Am doing rest ice compression and elevation as much as possible.

When can I expect to be able to walk, drive (manual) and cycle?

  • @moocher
    Commis, mate.
6 weeks minimum, and then only very carefully.
Once you start to use the limb, avoid wearing an elasticated bandage - it'll slow down the rate at which your limb regains full strength.
FWIW, I've done this to myself at least four, maybe five times (used to do a lot of cross-country running, last time I did it 'cos I was pissed).
    GWS

ETA - stick with the rest, elevation and ice. Compression - I'm unsure about - someone will be along to advise shortly.
ETFA - Also, once you are up to the point when you can do some physio, cycling using SPDs (other clipless pedals are available) is less likely to cause you harm than is walking - simply because it constrains your ankle to flexing through the arc which it is supposed to - as opposed to flailing all over the place.

  • Another SRAM question...

I'm replacing my SRAM Force 22 chainrings but I can't get the one half of the hidden bolt out of old outer ring. Looks like it's pressed in. Also can't seem to buy just this part online?

Replacing with SRAM Force 22 chainrings which don't have the part pressed it. I bought these off a club mate, should it have come with this part?

  • should it have come with this part?

The hidden/non-hidden 5th bolt is a variation between bolt kits rather than chainrings.

Wickwerks do a compatible bolt kit, although you'll have plenty of time to work on pressing the old one out while you wait for shipping from the US🙂

Alternatively, pull the spider off so that you can access the other side of the fifth bolt and use generic chainring bolts/nuts, then reattach the spider after you've finished tightening the rings to the spider.

  • Thanks for the info. I was hoping more like 6 days then 6 weeks. Will take it slow and steady though.

  • @moocher
Obvs. also depends on stuff like your age / general health.
I last did it 2 years ago.
It was around 3 months before I was back to anything like normal, and that's with regular physio from a hozzie.
I'm reasonably fit for my age and 62 this year.
6 weeks is an optimistic minimum, for a fit young person.
Meanwhile, some good news: It is sunny and warm outside.

  • What would you call these badgers?

    I need to source one.

Thanks! This might be the answer as I think i've reached my limit of attempting to bash it out

  • It's bizarre, on this other one I have it appears to sit above the tapers, but there's no way that's happening here. There's a lip above the tapers where it's 17mm. Washer is no bigger than 16.6mm. I'll live without it until the BB fails I guess.

  • So, going through the docs on Shimano I can't find the answer; what's the difference between Shimano alfine crank s500 and s501? I believe it has something to do with axle length and BB width, but would like to get this reassured and then know which one is which and which one best to use.
    Many thanks in advance, hivemind

  • Photos on mac has been deleting my images without me doing anything. It started with whole albums from 2015, replacing the pictures with blank files. When I export them to the desktop, they are still blank. I've tried going into 'show package contents' and they no longer exist there.

I'm running High Sierra 10.13.6 on a 2014 ish macbook pro. Here's an image of the wierd shit that's going on. I have the images saved elsewhere but it's creepy and frustrating. Please help!

  • Your second photo is what I'm expecting, have used UN55 for a lot of my builds and yeah the ring sits on the axle.

I'll keep an eye and check for movement or play every now and then.

  • what's the difference between Shimano alfine crank s500 and s501?

Just a styling update. Both generations come in versions with single or double chainguards, the latter having a 6.5mm wider chainline as a result. There's a running change in there somewhere where they got BB-RS500 cups rather than SM-BB4600, but that's even more of a distinction without a difference.

  • Would you say this cassette was worn or is it just the shaping of the teeth for shifting?

The red arrow is pointing at what looks like wear but the side of the trough where the yellow arrow is pointing looks in good shape and the green arrow points to what looks, to me, like a trough in very good shape.

I need a 7 speed spacing cassette to fit to a Hope trials freehub so this one would work nicely, newer ones have 6 cogs in the block and one loose so will be too long for the freehub body. I could cut split up a new one but if I can use a block thats bolted together it might keep the cogs from digging into the freehub so much.

Edit: Helps if I attach the image...

  • Has anyone ever used this site - https://www.t-dimension.com/

    Are they legit?

Want to buy a Garmin and they have it in stock at the right price.

  • I have a spare one in my parts bin. PM me with your address and I'll post it out on Tuesday (unless you're near N6 and cba to collect)

  • Are Chris King headsets user serviceable or do they need sending to a dealer for new bearings?
I’ve got an Inset 7 which is crusty after a year of wet weather riding

  • Does anyone use shimano BBs with a shim regularly rather than GXP? Any downsides?
I’ve also toasted the bearings in my BB after a year of rain and no cleaning and Shimano at half the price seems appealing

  • 1 year? Thought they were made to take you through the apocolypse, not up to it.

  • It wasn’t new at the start of that year, that’s just when I built up the frame it came on :)
Bearings are bearings though right. It’s just the cups which they say will last a lifetime though I’m pretty sure that’s true of any sealed bearing headset really

  • That’s very kind of you.
    Thank you!

  • Yeah, just ragging on CK - most cups will last a very long time given any half decent care.

  • I used a Hope BB with Hope adaptors. They were a right royal PITA. Never again.
