  • Agreed.
    Good work

  • The best place, nothing I can say bad about TBA

  • Great updates, keep them coming. Particularly keen to hear about the brazing masterclass post event.

  • Here’s the top for the little rear rack

  • Excuse the digestives

  • Good work!

  • So the rack got finished and turned out ok.
Despite being home so much at the minute, I’ve been putting off much metal fidgeting through lack of motivation but today I finally got the files out and made a start on a stem for myself.
It’ll be 120mm and about 7 degree drop to match my current fizik stem but I’ll leave the steerer stack a little longer so I can do away with one or two spacers.

  • Single bolt clamp on both ends, just to keep things neat looking, they’re pretty chunky clamps
And I’m going to “tuck” in the clamps into the tube as is the fashion these days
Hand mitred the extension tube and on the back cut in a channel for the clamp to sit in, then brazed together

  • Cleaned it up a bit and that’s where I’m at for the end of today.
    Now for a beer

  • Looks sweet, tucked bolt is smart!
The extension tube is the same diameter as the tube that fits over the steerer?
Did you get the bolt braze on bit from ceeway? Keen to have a go at a stem but not seen where to get those bits.

  • Thanks!
Yeah the extension is 28.6 internal diameter and 1.0mm wall thickness. All the materials come from Ceeway indeed.

  • Fully sick. Teach me to braze in exchange for beers??

  • nice metal heating action over here :)

  • Only just getting to grips with it myself. Certainly in no position to be teaching anyone the proper way to do things but if you want to also take your life into your own hands then I can show you what I got so far and you can have a go at that, for sure.

  • This looks v similar to my old donohue, I think sometimes weigh frames were made by him. Just in case you wondered/didn't know.

    Stem looks great so far

  • I had heard that yeah. Graham Weigh has had several builders make frames under the name including Paul Donohue and Terry Dolan I believe.
    Thanks man

  • Brazed the clamp onto the steerer tube part.
Cut, mitred with files for the extension to fit up at 7 degrees and began filing in a slot for the clamp to sit in

  • It’s a case of filing a bit, checking the fit, filing a bit more

  • Fit is good enough for brass

  • Very cool.

  • Need to cut a bit off the left side of the bar clamp tube as you can see but I’ve broken too many teeth on my saw blade and I’m waiting for more in the post.

  • I also need to make another cut through the clamp for the steerer and then measure stack height and maybe make another cut to get it the right height.

After that it’s just more filing on my less than pristine brazing and tidying up all the sharp edges

I’m thinking of painting my frame in hammerite so I’ll probably paint the stem to match and that will probably hide a lot of the small lumps and bumps so I won’t be too precious about getting it super smooth

  • Its not uneven its asymmetric

    Welds arent lumpy theyre artisinal

You'll be at bespoke in no time, just need the right key words

  • Yeah I'd say this is a PD one, looks very similar to my Graham Weigh, which GW himself confirmed as built by Paul Donohue. when I emailed the shop a while back.

Sharp job on the seatstay replacement! I kind of dig the odd look too.

  • Stem painted. Needs a final coat
