It really fucking doesn't and this clapping bullshit is mostly Tory cunts trying to assuage their guilty conscience.

It's sort of similar in the Netherlands, but less extreme in both fetishization and failing to address stuff. There's some clapping going on and we could have spent more on healthcare but not as much as in the UK from what I gather.

The only thing about this that doesn't leave me seething and sick is the fact they got sent packing.

A guy I know wrote this: 'FAQs: Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme', a House of Commons briefing paper. (PDF download at the bottom of the page, page might take a while to load for some reason)
As they say, "not intended to address the specific circumstances of any particular individual", but might still be interesting to read to figure out what that 'Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme' is all about. 24 pages, contents:
- Background
- Eligible employers
- āFurloughed workersā
- Eligible workers
- Selecting workers for furlough
- Meaning of wages
- Other employment issues

So we're knocking on 1,000 deaths a day and presumably by tomorrow almost 10,000 total. Patrick Vallance was quoted yesterday as saying the peak is at least two weeks away.
If it peaked at 'only' 1,500 14 days from now, my reckoning is we'd be at almost 30,000 by then.
This is fucking grim.

The vast majority of UK health workers who have died seem to be of Asian, African, or Caribbean backgrounds, especially among the doctors:
Like Ayache, all the other nine doctors to have been named as victims of coronavirus have been from BAME backgrounds.

Well, it you have a Pantomime PM who on March 7th would rather be at Twickenham to watch the rugby, than call for a shutdown, our current death curve is the result.

And Chief Nurse, every bit the politician, refused to number the amount of NHS staff who have died.
Was also suprised by Hancocks weasily words, suggesting those pesky nurses are using too much ppe, thus causing the shortage themselves

This is interesting, a lot rings true from my experience in Shanghai (always very different to Beijing). The description of the tent made me laugh, what they missed out is that in addition to the gazebo where you have your temperature taken there is usually a small 2-man tent for the guard to have a nap.
Beijing announced yesterday that anyone arriving in the city has to show a certificate that they have tested negative, but none of us know how we would get one of those so I guess I am never going to Beijing again (not a huuuuge loss). We have an office there and it's odd to think we have no idea when we can see our colleagues again.
Wuhan is now open, people from there being HEAVILY discriminated against.

Maybe where you live, but you won't find many Tory voters in the high rise blocks on Loughborough Estate who cause a massive noise with clapping and banging pots and pans every Thursday
That's pretty amazing but would rather have one of these
