Do you agree with TMs assessment of Afline 11 speed? Particularly the newer version? 701 rather 700?
-
• #8478
I do not have long term personal experience, so I cannot offer quite the same as he maybe can, I have ridden a few miles on Rohloff with 0 complains or issues.

Anyone got any opinions on Titanium seatposts and handlebars?
I've had a J&L one for several years. It's fine. Something like half of the weight saving comes from ditching the pentaclip, so you definitely want an integrated one.
Also the early tapered ones (for pentaclip use) had/have a tendency to crack at the diameter transition - not sure which brand those were. The integrated ones don't have a transition.

Thanks for the info as not much about them online.

You don't need 11 speed, 8 suffice.
Still assembling bits for a Di2 8 speed Brompton.

bwr 6 is 302%, alfine 8 is 307%, alfine 11 409%, rohloff, 526%.

Ease of maintenance? Price? ;)

What I would like to see is a 16 speed - Alfine 8 with brompo 2 speed.
-
• #8485
I'm mad but not that mad, should be doable if you wanna machine the splines of the cogs to fit, IF it would fit. Why stop there? Hack it to 3 x 8?The 'mech' won't interfere with Alfine's cable.
My reason for Alfine 8 is I can't be faffed with the 2x3 shifters and I don't like the current ratio between the gears.

Why stop there, could do rohloff, Brompo 2 speed plus double chainset...
All the gear!
-
• #8487
Rohloff, 3 speed Brompton derailleur conversion, triple chainset...
-
• #8488
Now that’s just silly.

Sorry if im asking an obvious question or a daft one, but which shop(s) are open to pick up a brompton? Ideally in london, and on finance (dont have a credit card)? Looking at getting one for the other half for her birthday, to try and cheer her up during this pandemic. This will be the first brompton in the family so pretty noob at this.

You can pay most retailers and use PayPal credit, quick application and interest free. Brompton offer finance via their .com site - not sure if interest free though.
Brompton chosen stores can be ship bikes to your door, certain stores have more stock / the ability to customise the bike etc whereas Brompton just sell what’s shown.

Thanks! I was under the impression that shops such as cycle surgery and evans 'cant, dont or wont' ship atm. I'll have a look around.

• #8492
Pretty sure Condor do finance.

Cool! Will pm you for questions etc.

Compton Cycles in Catford is the most recommended London Brompton dealer, at least on this thread.

Thanks! I'll try and email as well.

Anyone own more than one Brompton?
I'm reasonably satisfied with my s3l, but I've got the bug a bit! -

I've always thought a superlight S2 would compliment a 6 speed with guards, racks and marathons quite well.
In what way? Even the new 'improved' 701 version?
