Do they have the red disc on the Deore calipers?
-
• #128
Like, that will give me some radavist point if there's a little red circular disc on the brake.

I never understood the compression-less or Kevlar thing to be honest. Just fucking pull the fucking fucker. I love me BB5/7's. Set them up right and they'll endo you till the end of days no matter what bloody outer or inner you have.

Understood, or tried?
-
• #131
Tried with multiple kinds of compression-less, yet failed to see the day/night difference, or the cost premium. It just never made a difference in feel, just bite, which is easy to circumvent on normal housing. Just fucking yank harder.
I feel that initial set-up is more important. -

How are you finding the extraterrestrials?
-
• #133
To be fair, you’re 100% right, there is no need for it (like on road bike with rims brake callipers), the low compression housing are perfectly fine and add a degree of modulation.
I prefer the compression-less because I want to ensure less travel for the same pull, keep a decent gap between moving pads and rotors, and just adjust the barrier adjuster when the moving pads is worn.

How are you finding the extraterrestrials?
Like a very expensive marathon supreme, haven’t ridden it off road proper (will need to drop pressure to 10psi for that).

How you liking the bootzipper so far? Thinking of getting rid of my tank as it’s fucking my knee and Achilles despite constant adjustment. Liking the geo on the on one
-
• #136
I still love it, it’s heavier than a standard MTB (I put a 11-46t cassette on it) but I really enjoyed the modern MTB geometry on a rigid bike.
After ridden a modern MTB, it’s hard to get back to a traditional MTB which felt like a hybrid bike that out of its elements.Main reason why I chosen the Bootzipper;

Fucking hell ed, thats like £500 worth of bags. Get a topeak rack and decathlon panniers ffs.

• #139
don't worry you can get them on 0%.

It’s SRAM Apex and it’s 100% spot on, I couldn’t afford the more expensive version.

Ah cool. I had an 11spd GX/NX mix on a bike and thought it was decent enough. People are pretty down on sram but it comes on so many MTBs that surely there would be more bad reviews and complaints if it were rubbish.
-
• #144
You still liking the bike?
-
• #145
I really don't have any complaint, like it work, even when pushed over it's capacity (max 11-42, now running 11-46).
Still like the bike, just super nice to ride (very very stiff tho).

Nice! Couple more questions, sorry - what are the actual tyre clearance (it's listed as 2.4in) and max chainring size (listed as 32)? 29er frameset is reduced so think I'll go for that and build it up.

Bought a bootzipper after seeing Ed’s one above. Built it up from the parts bin and hoping to do some bikepacking with it after the lockdown ends. I have 29 x 2.4 ardents on, i will post some pics of the clearances tomorrow. Only had one hour long ride tonight, very happy with it, only changes will be jones bar copies when they are back in stock and having some bags made.

Looks awesome. And like a nice place to ride! Bikepacking when we are free again was my thought too. Going to get one and sew myself some bags (might do a CP).
(Coincidentally I literally just watched the Office ep with prison Mike, so your avatar made me chuckle.)

Thanks, i am lucky enough to have ended up in the Scottish Borders. Pretty much endless trails, great cycling culture and the right to roam. I’ll never leave.
I’m 5ft 10ish on a medium, I think there are Some weird angles in that pic or something because in the flesh it looks totally normal, It is shorter and more upright than my x.c bike
(Apologies for the thread derail).

The amount that Yokozuna Reaction costs would get you some better, Deore MTB hydraulics
