  • As of 2016 the organisation has changed and we became more focussed on a good, basic service to our customers.

So (fingers crossed) we hope Hubjub are returning to their original values.

  • Hubjub are back in the game!

Ordered Sunday, Monday was the Bank Holiday, delivered on Wednesday.

There's never been any suggestion of anything underhand (unlike Tredz/Wheelies or Winstanleys) but Drew has been struggling to keep on top of things.

And when you're spending other people's money, that's not good enough.

But when I was after a couple of bits for myself (which I wasn't that fussed about) and saw they'd revamped the website to address stock control and admin, I was happy to give them another go.

    So pleased I did!

Yeah, the sticker's going straight in the bin (the old "Hub" and "Jub" in a sprocket were cool, these are puerile), but the hand written note on the invoice was a nice touch and much appreciated.

Fingers crossed they get some more 3/32" Phil Wood sprockets...

  • Yaya. Jub is king

  • Ordered bar / stem combo on Tuesday.

Got a confirmation e-mail same day.

Got a 'your order has been dispatched' e-mail yesterday.

    Got the goods this morning.

It is such a joy when simple things work.

  • Ordered a set of v strong grips and was sent soyo's. Emailed them and was responded to quickly, Dave sent out my v strongs without question, and they arrived the next day. Very satisfied.

  • From an email of today.

  • ^Tempting.

  • The business is still being marketed. I am very much committed to finding a suitable custodian for what felt like (and hence attracted it to me in the first place) a respected part of the fixed wheel / urban biking scene. It really needs to be closer to the markets where its products are used than currently in Mid Wales. If you want to see the figures please contact the company via email or phone. I am willing to help out on the thread with the more subjective questions about what we do, the future directions buyers might like to consider, etc. Does anyone think this needs to be a new thread, or rename existing one to reflect things, as Will sold up the business years ago!

  • Am I tripping or did I see some used parts on the hubjub site a week or two ago?

Can't find them now but I am noticing that the number of items has increased from the last time (other than the aformentioned, possibly imagined, very recent brief browse). Hope the business does well for whoever owns it, I'll definitely be having a look more regularly now.

  • I don't think we have ever offered used parts, but we have put up the odd display bike and so-on. I am not confident dealing vintage parts, ironic as the National Cycle Collection shares our hometown.

  • I am considering going out with a bit of a flourish and getting more EAI cogs in, Kerin Tote, possibly a few of the Phil hubs.

These are all things that go back to the original Hubjub, but just got on the back burner in favour of more accessible products through UK wholesalers. The currency situation means they will be priced a little more robustly than we could do them back in the day (Hubs would still be cheaper than UK based Phil resellers!).

Would you be interested in this?

  • Would definitely like one or two of those black steel EAI cogs if they became available

  • I regret that I decided against the EAI order. I am more keen on reducing the existing stock and making the business more portable for any future buyer.

Actually I am intending on stopping sales at the end of November. Act fast. We do not intend to vanish immediately so in the rare event aftersales support is needed we will be about. The website usually allowed customers to buy stuff that was marked out of stock - this is because we generally get more in and those who choose to buy under such circumstances are presumed not to be desperate. This feature is now turned off because I do not want to order more. In plain English, that means when it's gone it's gone.

With regards to the sale of the business as an ongoing concern, there is opportunity for a new buyer to enter the fray. The offer is virtually that of remaining stock for trade price and buyer gets Hubjub for free. This is to ensure fast sale. Sadly if sale is not secured then the web commerce side of things will be put on ice whilst staff dispose the stock in jumble sales over the winter.

  • I've been thinking about this, if somebody is keen to take it over I think it is a business best served by dropping the store front then a split, somebody drop-shipping components from cheap warehouse and somebody promoting the web store and sales through social media. I'd potentially be interested in taking over the shipping side of it as I have been with small e-commerce for 5 years but I wouldn't want all the social media and payment platform to deal with. Just leaving this here in case somebody had the idea of reviving the website and social media side of hubjub but couldn't take on stock control as it isn't cost effective in London.

  • Thanks for this. Evidence if needed that the future custodian of Hubjub will likely receive support from the community should they need it. I would really welcome a consortium of riders who wanted to take on the business as some sort of collective where several skills could be combined to make a really kick-ass business.

I think the bike industry is becoming more professional corporate, but does mean that man-and-dog garden shed operations will struggle, unless the intention is for a lifestyle business only. Co-operative style ownership and/or operation might be one means to get the required scale and diverse skill base needed to compete.

  • I have put on a discount to liquidate as much stock as I can before the business sale. This gives the future owner a clean sheet without boxes of what may - for them - be considered legacy cruft. £100 gets you a 10% discount. £200 and above gives you 20% off.

So, dear forum member, see how you get on. If you have problems triggering the reductions let me know. All going well I will notify our full mailing list next week, so you might want to take advantage now whilst there is still a relatively complete range of stock! Don't wait on the assumption I will make further web reductions. It is more likely I will take rejected (by business buyer) leftovers on the road to various bike jumbles next year.

Head over to Hubjub and fill your boots!

  • I put a Sugino OX601D chainset in the basket (£209.99) in the basket and it's showing 10% discount?

  • I'll have a look today. I thought I had given the 20% discount priority on the system, meaning that it ought to have over-ruled the 10% when the order is eligible for both (as in your case).

    Thanks for the feedback!

  • I have played around with the priorities of the discounts but I think it might have been working already. Essentially the discount applies to the price excluding VAT. If there is something that you can put with the crank it should just about tip it into the bigger discount. Rest assured the Sugino cranks are much cheaper than they would be if we had to re-order - we managed to get those in before the currency tanked with EU referendum last year.

  • Thanks for checking. I appreciate the price is not bad considering the market conditions.

  • Ey up, has anyone bought from Hubjub lately? Just wondering ... they’ve got some natty stuff still just want to know if things are going smoothly before I splash out on some Honjos...

  • before I splash out on some Honjos...

    Is this really reasonnable?

  • 2 weeks ago was my last order. It was all good and their comms were great.

  • You mean because the world’s gonna end?

  • Great thanks for info Chris!
