you would think america can gets its ass in gear to organise a bit of wood pulp surely, even with trump in charge, maybe he could put jared forward to source pulp
i'm sure i saw a forest there on tv once -
• #9603
Coincidentally, a bit of well managed pruning could be the best way to lessen the impact of the next forest fire.
-
• #9604
they could also rake the forest while they're there

I think the key phrase is "medical grade" rather than just a blender and a tree.

There were many scamming fake news etc at Russia yesterday when they were reporting that he was on a ventilator. Given that we now now he was on oxygen and not just in for tests it looks like the Russian story was closer to the true than the stories coming out of number 10.
Strange times or not given that Boris is one of the biggest liars in British political history.

If anyone wants a better understanding of quite how brutal the ventilation process is, please read this:

The talk is obvs of boris.
Yesterday, the difference between where different parts of the UK are "on the curve" was highlighted.
Which raises the question: should London come out of lockdown before anywhere else? I'd say no. But I'm not an expert. -

Which is why MD has been suggesting intubating 80/90 year olds with covid is perhaps not a good idea.
-
• #9610
Indeed. The horrible details make it a lot clearer - I think people have been dealing too much in abstraction in this whole discussion

we're on the receiving end of a chinese whisper
Well that's one way of putting it
-
• #9612
Thanks for posting this, it makes the seriousness of this situation clear.
-
• #9613
80-90 year olds with COVID aren’t getting intubated... the vast majority of people intimated are between 40 and 65.

Glad this issue is getting some publicity. Stopping garden fires would literally save lives right now.
People who dismiss this issue as busy-body nimbyism should be aware of the real effects of this on health and death rates. -

radio 4 asking the questions we all want answering about our new leader

I didn't say they were. I said :

Hah that is just bonkers.
“Fiery painless relief for some, Threads for others. Next question.”

I think a lot of people have an image of ventilation being a slightly more complex mask being out on the patient, rather than tubes into the airway.
-
• #9619
Looking forward to a press image of Boris leaving hospital making a V for victory sign with his hand - to mirror his hero.

Cigar or no cigar?

Gove has just stated that Johnson is not on a ventilator. So are we to assume that Johnson is on a ventilator?
-
• #9622
It won't be a ventilator. It'll be an intubated air delivery system.

Start at 90 mins into this, it’s fucking harrowing, I couldn’t get to sleep last night

Doesn't he deserve the same privacy as other patients? I'm not sure why number 10 should disclose exact details of his treatment.
Legitimate questions are is he playing any role in government? (assume no); and if not, who is acting PM? (Raab). Those questions seem to have been answered, so leave him to receive treatment and stop the moment to moment speculation imo.
They've said they won't engage in tit for tat blockages. It's only useful to withhold the pulp if they have a factory that needs more than it can get. That said I understand there is a factory in Canada which can make the masks which is scaling up production so perhaps they'll just get all they need and the US gets what's left, if anything.
