  • Can you add more castor to the short wheel base car?

To the Avante? Apparently, but nobody knows how :)

  • looking at it, the only way would be to somehow raise the front link, or to have a new hub carrier with a different castor setting.

  • Yeah. If the upper and lower link on the hub carrier were a ball joint rather than a pin, maybe it could be done with the existing adjustments available.

    Meanwhile in Manchester

  • As much as this is technically not castor as the KPI won’t change, can you not wind in the front tie bar as much as poss, then wind the rear one out until it’s tracked up suitably, which should pull the wheel forward and extend the wheelbase as much as possible?

Only saying this because that’s how you set my rally car up but with it being a different strut design it does add caster

  • @Matisse what would be a good 2.2" 4WD tyre combo for general multi-surface dicking about? Doesn't have to be Tamiya, obvs.

Finally have some back DF03 wheels on the way for the Egress, need something to put on them.

  • Pretty much everyone goes for the schumachers, but asking around they seem to be very soft and wear easily.

I have some Schumacher cactus, which seem to be good for most things except grass. For grass/Astro there is a lot of talk about the Pro-Line pyramid, they seem to have good bite and last a long
    time.

Cost wise, the fasttrax are cost effective, don’t forget you’ll need inserts as well.

Got these carbon shock towers in the post today, tasty.

  • I'm currently using Tamiya blah blah blah, whatever the ones that come on the DF03 are called, seem ok for general arseing about, though I've only taken it out twice (buggy's in self isolation).

  • I was thinking Schumacher mini spikes or pins.

@jontea I’ve got a set of those - well two sets actually because the DB01 came with them too. Good on tarmac but leave a bit to be desired on grass.

  • Def go for the prolines or fasttrax then. The schumi’s wear really quickly

  • Ordered some Schumacher blue compounds...it’s not like I’m ever gonna drive this thing!

  • Have to perform a bit of grinder surgery on the DB01 spur and motor cover. It forms the top half of a clamp that keeps the pulley shaft in place. Seems that the double slipper requires more clearance behind the bearing surfaces than the standard set up.

    Difficult to do this neatly.

  • Is there any reason that everyone has gone electric over nitro ?

Always hankered after a nitro car when I was a kid and have never scratched that itch.

Quite like the idea of having a new toy to play around in the garden with the kids.

  • brushless is so good with modern batteries and chargers.

I had a nitro car a while back and it was a constant pain in the backside, annoyingly highly strung to get going

  • Messy and noisy. Fine if you’ve got a big chunk of land out back.

  • I was looking at the following so we can have races in the garden

    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/274323317478

For £100 each with everything I was thinking it a good deal ?

    Or these

    Thoughts?

  • Yeah I had a nitro car too and I wouldn't again. It was quick as hell but so much faff.

  • Dunno much about those. Could have sat around a long time so the electrics might not be in great condition. Possibly worth a punt if you could handle the hassle of replacing some bits and getting some new batteries.

  • Any tips for a ready to run mini RC car that I can play with my kids (4 and 18 months) indoors and out.

  • yeah they will be fine, maybe a little toppy on price for the RC18t's which are very small.

The virus and trophy are nitro so not really back garden bashers.

  • the rc 18's linked to above are probs the right size for the little ones.

this is great, but really only indoor/tarmac/patios as it wont do grass.

  • Thanks man, that looks great!

  • I had a few a few years back.. honestly they cost more to run than a proper bloody car!!, always breaking bits, not starting, fuel, glowplugs etc etc.. battery cars are cleaner, quieter and give just as much fun..

  • I got pair of these for the kids. Surprisingly snappy, definitely best suited for even surfaces. They do run on gravel, but being really light they'll change direction randomly at slightest bumps.

  • Busy night, changed shock towers for carbon, brass Balls for steel and installed and set up the electrics... tomorrow I’ll bed in the ball diffs and give it a run if I have time
