  • IIRC it's a torque / RPM trade-off.

I've only really used silver cans

You need some rapid shit in your life.

  • TBLE02 gets a little hat.

  • Matisse sent me a turnbuckle so I could get this thing rolling finally

  • I think wid all da anodising this one is the flagship Tamiya.

  • Yeah. It’s cool. Shit to drive though. About 1/2” too short! Among other calamitous design decisions.

  • Longer wheelbase is better for aero packaging. Aero > everything else.

  • Yes! Glad it turned up

  • Thanks man it’s almost finished now and actually drivable thanks to the longer and much better turnbuckle.

Also got rid of the Tamiya battery connections in exchange for these two piece Deans-alikes

  • Is there an advantage of changing to deans connectors?

  • Dunno. All the Tamiya speedos come with Tamiya connectors obvs, but the battery you want probably will not.

  • Is only really prevalent in high discharge batteries and escs. Basically as novices fine to stick with Tamiya connectors.

  • I had to go with industrial solderless mains connectors as the solder melted ery time I ran it over 5mins. (Boat)

  • solder melted ery time I ran it

    Hah

  • Slightly less susceptible to melting, if your setup draws quite a few amps and esc and motor run hot then tamiya plugs can melt (the plastic bit).

Edit: and Deans have a larger contact surface area.

  • BITD I melted all varieties of Tamiya connector with pretty mild setups.

Suspect modern sensored stuff might mitigate against this?

  • Took the Avante + DF03 wheels out with the kiddo for a break in spin. As you can see we like our prams like our RC cars - subtle as a bomb.

  • Yeah I think if u start to look at brushless 3S+ you could start considering alternate connections.

  • Break in run was cut short by the servo horn wandering off.

Went to pop it back on at home and noticed the steering assembly was really stiff which explains why the servo was struggling to return to neutral. so off it all came.

  • The 1988 steering assembly is utter crap by today’s or even 90’s standards. All bushings running on wood screws. Somehow manages to be heavy, weak and with loads of slop.

Liberal application of AW grease and some shims got it running better. Had the hub carriers off too to add a spot of grease on their pivots too as they were also a bit draggy.

Servo seemed much happier when all back together.

Next - sorting the messy wiring out.

  • Is like they placed the components before linking them up...

  • No idea what they were thinking! But it was 1998...

    Before wiring tidy and after.

  • Can you add more castor to the short wheel base car?
