  • Fair comment - it comes from a history of having worked for The Science Museum.

  • If I have 2 monitors and share my screen on zoom does it share one or both?

  • You choose which one to share.

  • Seems you might be sharing it quite widely...tho ofc the innocent have nothing to fear https://www.theregister.co.uk/2020/04/01/zoom_spotlight/

  • Anyone using a Casper mattress here? Are they worth it?

  • I have a front brake seized onto a fork here. Previous owner fitted it, and the recessed nut was too long or he didn’t use the correct spacer up front but the bolt topped out without tightening the brake fully so it rocks about. The bolt has extended almost to the end of the nut so that I can’t get the Allen key in fully, and it’s rounded off. It’s also rusted on.

I’ve thought about cutting a slot across the head of the nut and using a flat blade driver on it, but other than that I’m a bit stumped. It’s a decent calliper so I’d rather try and not destroy it by cutting it off. Any thoughts or ideas? Esp @mdcc_tester I guess :)

Get back to us when you've done more than just think about it

  • Can you disassemble the caliper from the front and remove the bolt from the back?

  • Can you disassemble the caliper from the front and remove the bolt from the back?

With all this time on our hands and the Shimano exploded view pdfs still accessible last time I looked, you should have been able to avoid such an obvious pratfall

  • Some of us are supposed to be working!

  • Sick burn bruh

  • No. I can get the left arm off but the rest is attached via the centre pivot.

  • try spanking a torx bit it there that's slightly too large?

or if the underside of the steerer tube isn't capped off could you get some needle nosed pliers on the outside of the bolt inside the steerer tube and undo it from the inside.

  • ^This (the hammered torx) approach is sound.

  • Pashley Guv'nor...chain pitch? 1/8?

  • I've been sleeping on an Eve mattress for the last couple of years. I believe that they are similar in construction.
    Worth the money.

  • Standard 1/2" chain pitch, I'd assume. Looks to me like the chain width is 1/8".

  • Using one ("The Essential") for a year, no complaints.

  • special extractor drill bit - EZ Out - could work. Or slot it with a Dremel.

  • EZ Out - could work

They rarely work for what they are actually suitable for. This isn't one of those.

By the time you've drilled a big enough hole for an EZ-Out to grip the tube nut, you might as well go the extra mm and drill the centre bolt past the end of the tube nut and have the whole thing fall out without any further tools.

  • If you have access to a blow torch you could invert the bike remove the wheel and heat the sleeve nut in the steerer tube. It might make it let go enough with whatever method you choose to turn it.
You might have to remove the forks to prevent boiling any bearing grease.

  • Whatever you do, if it's rusted you need to give it a good blasting with penetrating fluid.

  • Remove the wheel.

You might be able to get enough purchase on the end of the nut with vice grips then spin the brake off.

Or some thin vice grips grab the nut through the underside of the fork crown.
