If you are a policeman and talk to a dozen cyclists a day and you start to notice that a quarter of those people are a long way from home, then thats the impression that you get.

Is there any evidence that this is happening ? I've seen lots of tweets from police about people driving hundreds of miles to collect windows off ebay and people walking in the peak district and since then the police have been told to back off.

Interesting that this anecdotal interaction with a community officer that happened yesterday seams to support what you've been banging on about on here for over a week now.
