Matt Hancock was looking well, back at work 7 days after diagnosi, assume he has now written himself a prototype immune certificate. Nice he had time to practice some magic tricks while he was off and demonstrate it tonight by wiping out £13bn of NHS debt also known as money the Government owed the Government, net impact zero

not really though is it. if we owed £13bn there's no way we would get growth bids approved or even be able to defend our current funding.

£13bn.
Can't quite recall where or who, but I have a nagging memory
that some mendacious politicians were promising '£350m a week for the NHS'.
That £13bn is only about 37 weeks worth. -

mentioned the NHS clapping on my street this evening. Her words were, “tell those fucks to stop voting Tory if that really want to help the NHS” I live in Tory safe seat.

I'm being slightly facetious but my crude understanding is that the historic debt didn't need to exist if not for Lansleys internal market reforms that created costs that never needed to be incurred to begin with and removing the debt won't remove alot of the inequality they created by penalising already underperfoming trusts, I guess it just annoyed me as it is another case of them using the magic money tree they have found to try and undo ideology driven holes they have found themselves in but dress it up as a win rather than admitting a failure

I know the "Make Your Own Face Masks" thread got closed, and I do agree with @Fox's points, but it looks like it might soon become part of official US guidelines:
C.D.C. is expected to advise all Americans to wear cloth masks in
public. The Trump administration is expected to announce as soon as
Thursday that all Americans should wear cloth masks or other face
coverings if they go out in public, based on a forthcoming
recommendation from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
that would mark a shift in federal guidance amid new concerns that the
coronavirus is being spread by infected people who have no symptoms.Until now, the C.D.C., like the World Health Organization, has advised
that ordinary people do not need to wear masks unless they are sick
and coughing. Part of the reason was to preserve medical-grade masks,
including N95 respirators, for health care workers who desperately
need them at a time when they are in continuously short supply. But according to a federal official, the C.D.C. will now recommend
that everyone wear face coverings in public settings, like pharmacies
and grocery stores, to avoid unwittingly spreading the virus. Public
health officials have stressed that N95 masks should be saved for
front line doctors and nurses, who have been in dire need of
protective gear.

Holy shit France's numbers look bad today. Currently 1355 deaths, from 'just' 509 yesterday. Also, we've surpassed 1 million official cases worldwide, though of course god only knows how many there really are...

I can't find confirmation just yet, but I think that the figure might be so much higher than yesterday because they've just added in the nursing home (EHPAD) death figures too (all daily totals in France until now have only included hospital deaths). Liberation reports that they now have an (unconsolidated) figure of 884 deaths from nursing homes, so if it's due to this number being added, it puts the 'hospital only' deaths at slightly less than yesterday's 509.
I'm not completely sure on this though.Edit:
The numbers match up here:471 hospital deaths + 884 EHPAD deaths = 1355

Are you making visors? If so - top work!
Also - do they really need to be made in a sterile environment with high-end materials? This feels like one of the few pieces of protection that can be made quite crudely and still work well

Have you got a source for this? Couldn't find anything online.

I hope so. There are strict guidelines to hygiene and sterility but obviously not going to be to a clinical standard. Let's hope proper kit appears in the meantime.

It's certainly possible he's doing some hiding, but if he hasn't actually got it it's pretty high risk to pretend he does.
If he gets it later he might not be able to hide it, and being the only person in the world to have been tested to have it, 'recovered', then have it again wouldn't be credible.

There's been individuals here in Sweden doing similar things. There was an article in the news with someone who 3D-printed 100 visors but the health services turned the offer down since they hadn't been properly tested.
I get that, but surely a 3D-printed visor is better than no visor

Which makes it all the sadder that NHS trusts are interested!
Well, i hope they arent needed but im sure they will do a job if they are.
