hehe, I spotted their names had the first letter swapped Gamil/Jamil Jary/Gary so had an inkling of a spoof - but tbf it's pretty convincing for the first few mins!!

In my defence I'm ill ATM so not the most switched on... Still I knew that guy with the beard was called Gary. I've watched some of his vids and wasn't he the one who finished 6s after the cut off?

Exactly, The Ginger Runner made it, it's called 'Where Dreams Go To Die'. Must have been the most savage experience ever, Laz gets such a kick out of that shit too.. it's all so mental.
Jamil has run it a couple times too but never finished, maybe a fun-run though? I watch both their channels tho, good vids.

• #22005
Point of order: he didn't finish as he arrived back via the wrong trail. Inside of the time limit and he'd have been dq'd.
-
• #22006
Ah well either way he wouldn't be a finisher - I'm glad he went the wrong way tho, to have missed it by 6 seconds would have been too awful..

How's all the solo running going? I'm quite enjoying it and am finding new routes and paths to run .
There's some racing going on this weekend as well. It should have been the national road relays and there is a virtual competition going on - 12x5k. There are going to be some very fast 5ks submitted from the calibre of athlete that is entering across the UK and globe. Probably one to keep any eye on strava and opentrack from Saturday morning.

I'm very much enjoying moderate distance/effort running at the moment. Pretty much sticking to my usual routes, with no problem social distancing especially with generally being able to jump into the road to avoid pavement close-passes (even on the A2!)
Not sure what I'm doing on Saturday but I may be up for logging a quick 5k, perhaps not all-out but a hard effort to see where my fitness is at.

Decent enough for me, I'm finding I much prefer the idea of running over cycling. Keeping to broad streets with pretty wide pavements and quiet roads rather than parks though, they're all packed around me.

Just started "running" again. In fact it's just a 2km walk/jog round the nearby streets with my family to blow the cobwebs away in the morning. Unfortunately even from that I get horrible twangy ITBS in one leg. It feels horribly tight and numb on the outside of my thigh. I've had this before and it's the reason I gave up running (because it then interferes with cycling). Any advice?

• #22011
Yeah I'm enjoying it, getting good volume in, just maybe lacking a bit of creativity around more structured runs. I'm missing lunchtime runs around Hampstead Heath too.

I'd be interested to see data from Strava over this period as imagine so many more running miles are being logged

Had similar issues in the past - what shoes are you running in? When I first started running I used a pair of sporty looking Nikes I had - free runs I believe. And they just ruined my knees. I went to get my gait analysed and was recomended a pair of neutral Asics and I havent had a problem since. Basically my feet suppinate, which causes my knee cap to become slightly misaligned due to a lack of mobility in my hip flexor, this causes the knee cap to aggrevate the surrounding tissue. Run and become are doing remote gait analysis - might be worth checking it out.

I've not been running. Just hasn't seemed important. Local trails are very busy when I've walked out there. Reckon main rds would be my better option when I do restart. Edit: or run v.early each day.
In other news my first claim transfer is about to begin via the EA website.

Same here. Don't want to go miles on the bike so running seems a better idea. If I keep it up then can imagine a 10k by the end of the month and maybe a HM in a few months time.

My routes from the past couple of weeks have taken me right past the new morgue being built on Wanstead Flats - I haven't been past it since they started building it though.
There's a footpath round the back of the cemetery over the road that has very few people that ever use it, you can turn left to go to the Roding Valley Way (pretty deserted) or right to go under the train tracks towards Barking (deserted and desolate).
I love those sorts of surroundings for some reason.

That's the route I run but I've never gone right towards barking, I normally go flats, roding valley, up round hollow ponds and back. Can i nick a strava route from you?

And number of new users would be interesting.
Re. mileage - the one run a day is going to stop the really high mileage lot i.e. 70+ mpw

I haven't gone to Barking for years, but I ended up on King Alfred Way once. I'll see if I can find it.
If you have a look on a map, you go down that alleyway, cross Romford Road, and then follow Grantham Rd. do a left down Gainsborough, left at the end, under the railway, then Stevenage Rd, Southend Road, Northfield, Wall End Rd. straight on to the bottom of Park Ave, left up Flanders, then onto the footpath. left at the end, then follow that to King Alfred way. Hopefully that makes sense!
Here's a GPX I just created. Back up through Barking, west of Ilford, then back over the A406. I might do this on Sunday morning, it's been years since I went that way

Yeah I suppose so but figured the people running the big distances would still find a way.
Users and individual runs would be a good stat - average pace too

panic buying treadmills!

maybe a HM in a few months time.
Nice! Let us know how the 10k progression goes. I'm vaguely thinking of building back up to HM too.

Cheers, funnily enough I've been wearing some very supportive Asics for running because I've had over-pronation issues for years. I think the whole question has been rendered moot, however, by the fact that I knackered my right knee yesterday doing some short shuttle runs in the garden trying to keep mini-m active during lockdown.
I think I've come to conclusion that my running days are now over (not that I was ever a very serious runner). My right knee is just really fragile. It can handle the straight-up-and-down motion of cycling at reasonable intensity, but running just irritates it (especially my ITB), which creates a huge amount of tension over the top-front of my knee, which makes it really susceptible to injury from any slight twist or jolt. Annoyingly I was planning on getting on the turbo later, now it's a hinged-knee brace, elevation, ice, and working out how I can avoid going up and down the stairs for a week or two.

I hope this picture works and isn't the wrong way round. Just wanted to say thanks to everyone and especially @Greenbank, ankle is totally fucko but I'm feeling confident for the future!

Got my 5k leg done in the virtual road relays: 16:09, which would be a road pb if it was an official race. Now I can sit and watch the results come in for the next four days.
Enjoy the solitary running everyone.
O fucking hell. I'm a dick aren't I?
