Does make you wonder how you get the non severe one?
-

Your correct the pcr test detects the presence of segments of RNA from this virus. The virus itself may or may not be present or active. In a patient with active symptoms then they are likely to have active virus particles.
Staying safe is my gripe. No one is ever truly safe. First we have to define what safe means. Also I am not in control if I contract this disease or even pass it on. I can and do observe the new normal way of life but that reduces the risk of contraction and transmission rather than removes it. I am also not in control of my symptoms if I contract it how serious it gets. So I cant stay "safe"whatever "safe" is supposed to mean. There is a risk of dying in being alive and that chance is slightly higher now but the risk of me dying is still very low. The whole reason why we isolating or distancing is to reduce the risk of transmission so when people do fall very I'll they can get the care they need to give them the best chance of survival. We not distancing for ourselves but for others. I think the normal pleasentaries are enough. New ones are not required. I shouldn't be annoyed about this but everyone anxieties are pilling up on top of each other. Thats something we will have to become mindful of.

And this is what you have in your nose?
Take a moment to reflect on the bizarre times we live in, when this is a perfectly normal question ;)
-
• #480
It's the same virus, different immune response.
-
• #481
Have you considered blowing your nose? ;)
-
• #482
There's an idea!
In isolation frustration news, the power grid company has killed power to our house for the day as they're replacing the meter and fuses. Can't even watch TV.

Have you considered having a conversation / reading a book / some other lame luddite thing devoid of the digital stimuli we have come to love and adore?

Have you considered having a conversation
"Oh! I never knew Schopenhauer was a philosopher!"
-
• #485
Yes, it's crossed my mind. Would never actually go through with such a thing of course.

Yes. Still

It really gets boring doesn't it?
I felt absolutely fine Monday to Wednesday this week. Even did an hour on the turbo on Tuesday. Fine this morning then it hit me again this afternoon and going for a short walk after work was hard.
Found out a colleague who had been experiencing the same thing (came back to work last week then went off again) got so bad on Saturday night 111 told him to call an ambulance, who then told him they couldn't help as he wasn't dying. Luckily he seems to be doing better again now.

Also is anyone else finding that one drink has a pretty devastating effect?
I mean I am a lightweight normally and proud but currently to a ridiculous degree.
-
• #489
Drinking no. But then I'm long into lightweight territory now. #dadlyfe
I've been able to go out for the last week with the kids in the park. But seriously, not even 5 mins of rad dad running leaves me fucked.
I had to go to bed at 6 today after looking after the two of the them this afternoon. Just got up.
Told myself I'm not fucking dying of this shit. It'd be such a fucking cliche.
Family Man on immunosuppressive drugs leaves behind family. Fuck that. -

Plus.
I made a fucking awesome Bolognese today. I want to eat that -

Today was the first day I’ve felt human in best part of two weeks, worked from home for the full day - seem ok except the gastric distress continues, which is getting a bit tiresome.
Taste had returned, as had smell, but I was too nesh to have a beer this evening, maybe Saturday I’ll crack into the Brew York survival box that turned up the day I got sick....

• #492
So very boring - I hope I’m not walking towards a similar relapse, I was quite enjoying feeling normal again.
-
• #493
“Slightly above”?? I’m off the fucking scale here
-
• #494
Oddly enough I'm probably drinking less overall, but maybe more often. Less 'bingey'.

Also is anyone else finding that one drink has a pretty devastating effect?
I had three beers last night due to a leaving do then our club awards dinner (both virtual).
That was a bit dumb but I'm actually feeling better than expected. More annoyed at myself for not being more restrained as not sure I'll be able to do any meaningful exercise today. The turbo is not appealing right now, especially with the lovely weather.
-
• #496
I did about an hour on the turbo.
That's about enough for anyone. -

There was a touch rugby game going on in kennington park at 11 oclock today as I was heading to Tesco

Back at work, 21 days after symptoms started. In accordance with Swedish guidelines as I've had no active symptoms for >48 hrs. Still feeling a bit knackered and chest still feels like it's been through the wringer from 2,5 weeks of constant coughing. Commute did not go very well although I did manage to overtake a lady on a dutch bike, hopefully I'll get some stamina back in the coming days :)
Also itching to get the results back from my antibody screening last week, quite interesting being a guinea pig. Follow up blood samples to be taken on thursday.

I think I'm getting there.
I did a minor turbo on saturday. Yesterday I did a bigger session. It fucking hurt and I went pop. But I feel ok today. Not wiped out. -

Good to hear you both getting back to normal!
I had enough of isolation and taking it easy so got some decent beers for the weekend (3 small cans per evening 🥳, I'm still a middle-aged parent) but rode down to the sea front last evening with a mate. Sat on a bench (far apart) and had a can each. Normalest thing I've done in a month I think.
The RNA is the code that causes your cells to make both the RNA and the delivery mechanism that surrounds the RNA - which is what the picture of the blob with the little prongs sticking off it is. The combination of the RNA and the delivery mechanism is what we think of as the virus.
The rna on its own floating about can’t do you much harm on its own. Not sure if PCR is capable of detecting if the delivery mechanism is present, I suspect not but someone else can confirm.
It’s properly ridiculous when you think about it.
