I've not really had any hassle from anyone, a lot of insistence on knowing when I came back to China and people telling me how safe China is compared to the rest of the world (tbh I hear this allllll the time, just the topic has changed from crime to the virus and both are bollocks, I've never lived anywhere where knife attacks at kindergartens are such a common incident!). The virus is ABSOLUTELY still a major problem here but people would have to die in tens of thousands before it's admitted. I'm wearing a mask/keeping up the handwashing even if the old people in my compound think it's ok to spit in the street again.
Something strange going on in China. Foreigners now not allowed to enter and airlines are only allowed to operate 1 flight to each country per week, limiting the number of imported cases (students returning from abroad), apparently no domestic transmission. However there's been a whole host of government measures in the last few days closing venues, moving the college entrance exam back by a month, forbidding sports events, etc. This is quite different to a week ago when the govt allowed us to open up our compounds again and officially said we don't need to wear masks if we're alone in public. Pretty sure there are a LOT more cases, historical and current, than have been officially announced.
