I've just ordered a new cartridge to replace my damaged one.
What do I need for installing/set-up?
Just print out a template thingy online or is there a better way? -

Is it an old Play:5 with headphone out? That's how I'm putting Sonos through my hifi.
You could try doing the TruePlay room tuning while it's hooked up.
-
• #7629
No, its the old Sonos Connect. I'll see if there is any way to do the tuning with it though

what arm is it?
i find the protractors on vinyl engine with the arc printed on them the easiest.
-
• #7640
cartridge protractor for alignment (print outs are fine) and scales to set tracking weight

DAC question.
Plan on rigging a modern tv to my vintage amp. I'll be running optical cable to the DAC then RCA to the amp. The TV and and amp 6 metres apart...so is it better to have:
A. Long optical cable to DAC, short RCA to amp.
B. short optical/long RCA
C. Make no difference. -
• #7643
A
1s & 0s are either there or not, analogue signals change more with longer cables as a cable is a form of LCR filter

Thanks!
I thought that would be the case but was hoping to be able charge the DAC from the TVs USB port rather have it fight for a plug socket with the hi-fi gear...

You can get a USB cable as long as your optical cable.
The (potentially #pretentiousaudiophilecunt) option is a battery. A cheap powerbank could provide low noise power to your DAC for days, for about £20

Nagoaka MP110, nice fit with a Linn. I will probably buy one, but I reckon the planar 2 I have needs rewiring, so may be after that... Current set up is Rega Planar II, Rega Brio 2000, Linn Kann.

Cool. I just ordered a MP110 after recommendations on here and reading some bits online.
I just want to make sure I set it up properly. -

They are quite forgiving. Lovely carts, I still fancy an MP500.

Cheers. Plug problem solved: A dual USB charger plug will mean I can double up DAC with my bluetooth transmitter.
I've been wondering whether to post that as it seemed very unaudiophile and a sound engineer friend poo-pooed it as trickery.
All I know is that I had to stop my self look around and it was cute watching Mini-H look all over the place for where the sound was coming from. Would love to be a student again with a couple of albums like that and a pill - especially at a time like this it would be a great way to while away a day or two.
