  • Over the next two years I'm going to be redoing the house. Because of my job I'm pretty good with most DIY (except plastering), can do the electrics myself and have mates at work who can do gas.

However I've not embarked on something like this before. Is there any good 'house project management' resources or books out there?

No major works like extensions or loft conversions just a rewire/new boiler/new kitchen and bathroom/redecorate.

  • No major works......kitchen ;)

    Anything less than 40k is....

Can talk you through the things I learnt, from experience especially if you are living there alone or with family.

  • It's more just the order in which to do it.

    I'm thinking :

    1. New consumer unit doubled up with current one. Circuits are swapped/added as work progresses.

    2. New combo boiler/remove old storage cylinder/loft tank/reposition some radiators/get pipework rejigged.

    3. Plan and install kitchen, new sockets and lights.

    4. Plan and install bathroom.

    5. Other rooms. New sockets, lights, redecorate.

    6. Garden works (although I'd like to do landscaping over winter to have the soil read for spring).

It's not going to be top line bespoke stuff. I've got a £10K budget and I'd like to have change out of that.
