  • I'm after for suggestions for a slim looking stem to suit a skinny steel frame. Ideally 26mm clamp. I really like the look of the steel stem I have on there at the minute but I can't stop the 25.4mm bars stop slipping in the 26mm stem, no matter how many cans of tyskie I drink. It's got a 1 bolt clamp design, I'm thinking a 2 or 4 bolt might be easier to shim/tighten more effectively.
    Edit: looking for a 90 or 100mm

  • Why do you want a 26mm stem for 25.4 bars?

Will it close up without the shim? I've had success with 25.4 bars in a steel 26 stem without shimming, as long as you don't run out of travel you won't overstrain steel by closing the extra 0.6mm. Your shims might be acting as a bearing 🙂

  • Sounds like it might be a bit on the generous side of 26mm in the stem. I have 25.4mm bars in a 26mm Cinelli 1A with shims and it holds on ok. The bolt in the 1A does need to be cranked up pretty tight though.

  • Try the syntace ones. They come in 25.4 and are slim and beautifully simple stems.. light too if you care about that.
