The cheap NW chainring was making a grinding noise. At least I think that was problem. I swapped it out for a standard chainring. Not sure if I’ll have any chain drop because of the clutched derailleur. We’ll see. It stayed on when I rode it around the backyard shifting up and down. I also went from a 44t chainring to a 34t. This will be interesting. I do have a non-ramped 40t chainring I can put on there if this doesn’t work.

Is that upside down for everyone else? Or just me because I’m in Australia?
-
• #108
Definitely upside down for me. And I'm in Denmark.

Weird. Well, you get the idea.

I do.
Also, I run a non-NW 42T chainring with a gx 10-speed clutched RD and I've only dropped the chain a handfull of times when I've tried to shift 3-6 gears at a time without some load on the chain. -

It worked well riding in this morning. No dropped chains. Geared way too low for commuting though. I’ll either bump it up to a 36t (which won’t much difference from a 34t) or a 40t. I was surprised how well it actually worked though.

Did just over 100k’s on this yesterday, with about 1300 of vertical metres of climbing. Longest ride I’ve done in over 4 years. Mix of road, gravel and some cliff top single track. Swapped the chainring out to a 40t and the tyres out to 40c WTB Nano’s. Bike went great, it was my fitness that I struggled with. I probably wouldn’t do a long ride (50k+) with the Bullmoose bars though. Lack of hand position over time and also for climbing was a bit annoying. Still a great day out riding.

Well done! Was the Curve crew a cheerful lot?

Yeah, they were nice enough. I actually know one of the founders from years ago through skateboarding. They had a couple of stops on the route with free Coke (of the cola variety) and beers which was great. We missed most of the ride though because we split off and we went a slightly different way (which actually gave us Nicol Rd just outside of Meadows, which was awesome).

Did the very start of the Mawson Trail the other week. Paconi gravel bike wasn’t finished, so I took this. The Vittoria rando’s didn’t provide nearly enough grip on some of the loose gravel. Did ~50k’s all up and almost 400m of climbing in a very short distance.

Thanks!

You can see how quickly it got steep, and how slowly I went up (had to walk parts of it).

Haven’t been riding this as much because I’ve been out on the Paconi a lot more and haven’t really been commuting. I desperately need a new wheelset for this as well. The rims are hella worn and both hubs are fucked. It still looks cool though.

@nogk. Way too steep and rocky. It’s really hard to show how steep it is in the video.
@pascalo sure is!
