• Today Richmond park bans cyclists without NHS badge (under 12 yo OK)

The rumour is that it's to do with congestion at the gates and people not maintaining 2m distance as they queue to get through (the pedestrian gates are slow enough as a pedestrian let alone trying to get a bike through). Pedestrians are bad but the sheer numbers if you allow cyclists make it way worse, so cyclists get banned.

I believe that they're looking at solutions for keeping the main gates open enough for cyclists to get through but preventing cars using the park. If they sort something out it's likely to reopen to cyclists next week some time.

  • The ped gates have been opened such that you can walk straight through, no touching/ opening/ squeezing through like normal (oooo eeerrr).

I'm not sure what the right answers are here in general. All the open spaces are busy. Its hardly surprising and we can't moan too much - there are a huge number of people who all want their hour in the fresh air, and the only thing anyone has to do all day is that. No pop round a mates for a chat, no head into town for some retail therapy, no cinema, bowling alley, soft play, kids parties, barbecue, pub lunch, watch some sport, visit the parents etc. THE ONLY THING IS THE PARK. So it's busy.
