  • Despite earning less than half of the average wage, think I miss out. 4 years ago (16/17) self assessment contains massive amount of PAYE income from before I was self employed so overall income is less 50% self employed.

  • Really feel for you.
Had a baby boy 3 weeks ago, mum and baby had to go back into hospital for a couple of nights 2 weeks back, when the first patient in Southampton died of Covid19.
Definitely feel that we've brought him into a messed up year, but fortunately he won't remember it when he's older!

  • there will be some highly paid furloughed workers who do not need it

Also a small pool though. Increasing the government payout by 5% to cover top earners isn't that big a deal in the grand scheme.

My hope is that all the pressure on the govt. from people who fell through the cracks will lead to temporary UBI.

  • Bit harsh piling on someone who wants some support from the govt during the biggest crisis in modern times.

  • Friendliest forum on the internet, don't forget

  • The thing that really changed my mind was when I got to an age where friends and family started to get cancer and the NHs spent literally millions of pounds keeping the people close to me alive.

They spent over £2m on Rowhan alone.

For that reason, I walked away from Tax avoidance and have been paying maximum possible tax on my earnings since.

My old opinion was an incorrect one. Every penny I contribute is a penny well spent.

  • But in 6 months time, I will.

You earn £700k pa gross and you'll be in trouble in six months? You have no passive income to tie you over? WTF?

My mind fucking boggles. You do not need government help, you need a financial planner.

  • Bit harsh piling on someone who wants some support from the govt during the biggest crisis in modern times.

Gross income? Close to 700K a year as a household.

  • This is a really heart-wrenching story.

  • So it seems your net income is ballpark £30k a month, your expenses/spending is a very large fraction of that and you've got less than £100k in cash/whatever?

You can be forgiven for not foreseeing a massive global pandemic but it doesn't seem like £4k/mo from the government is going to make much of a dent in your problem.

As Howard says: financial planner, maybe they can salvage something for you

  • At least they won the Golf thread

  • There is no irony here. You're ultra wealthy and waste your money apparently. My only suggestion is to cancel your subscription to the FT's How to Spend It.

I'm so done with this conversation.

  • Must be a piss take? Surely

  • Maybe go and do some volunteer work with the NHS / Local council if your work has dried up. They could do with your help now more than ever..

  • Definitely a wind up. Categorised by chasing every response they can.

It's a shit one. Pretty insensitive given the fact there are people with actual real problems.

  • I'm not entirely incredulous because I knew someone who earned a lot of money IT contracting in the 2000s. Then came 2008 and their work dried up. So they tried to sign-on, and were genuinely surprised when they were told to do one.

  • You're a troll fuck off

  • Where's the popcorn gif?
Probably best to disengage from this one, he needs no more feeding.

  • Gross income? Close to 700K a year as a household.

    Hahahha

    Fuck off, you utter nobber.

    That's more like it.

  • Didnt realise Richard Branson was on the Forum
