I raced for Rock Lobster when I lived in California in the 1990's. Paul sponsored the team I raced for (BlackMarket Racing), although at that time all his CX bikes were Tange steel.
The Paul Sadoff-built Rock Lobsters are not to be confused with the Rock Lobster MTBs sold here in the UK. Paul licensed the brand (to Merlin I think) and the frames were made in Taiwan. They were ok-to-nice frames, but the real Paul Sadoff handbuilt-in-Santa Cruz frames ride awesomely. They are true custom, handbuilt gems.
Here are a couple of pics of me back in the day: mid-late 90's (think this is 1996 or 1997) at a wet Surf City CX Series race near Santa Cruz.
Whoever's bought the frameset should check out Rock Lobster's Facebook page. Paul is still going strong and these days only producing his high-end, handbuilt frames.
Only just seen this... that is an awesome bike.
