Before this picked off we had 1500 planes flying over us each day. Yesterday we had 250.

I don't mean less planes, they have obviously been cut - I mean practices in the airport, especially when compared to other countries encountered on the same journey. Just so little communication or oversight - the only non-passenger voice I heard going through the border was one guy shouting for people to take their hats off going through the passport scanners. Maybe this is fine, just seemed odd to me.
@kboy - if that's the rule it wasn't mentioned once going through immigration. Other than the little sanitiser table, the virus got no publicity at all.
There was a French couple at the lost luggage counter saying they were trying to get to France but didn't have any planned way of doing it so far, so I doubt they'll have been doing it. -

They're closing early so teachers can get online learning up and running in time for after Easter apparently...
As kids, we were often regaled with tales of Flying Doctors and children in remote Australian homes being schooled over shortwave radios. At the time, I suspect we thought all of Australia to be remote and so perhaps all we are seeing is a return to the reality of our youths.

This is really worrying
I totally agree.
Is the UK (unlike other afflicted counties) still not releasing hospital data (numbers in ITC beds etc)? I heard journalists raise this concern last week.

Always happy to read an '... are innocent' campaign coming to fruition,
I clicked on the link and read the story. Sounds like the Chinese scientists
are trying to shift the blame to Malaysian animals/habitats.
Then saw in the follow up/linked stories this: https://www.scmp.com/news/china/society/article/3076334/coronavirus-strange-pneumonia-seen-lombardy-november-leading -

Ah cheers, I didn't know there was such a handy chart for it too! Is that all the flights the website usually tracks world-wide, or what?

It's almost enough to make me listen to Depeche Mode.
Thanks for the earworm!

I'll tee them up,
you crash them into the back of the net. -

Immigrants are more likely to work in hospital, more likely to be self employed and more likely to be renting. On top, some groups cannot get any benefits due to existing rules.
Many also work in food production, so let's see how the government will deal with this...
One Tory already had a "em maybe those unskilled jobs are sorta important" moment?
Unfortunately my MP is SF so doesn't take his seat (was that or the DUP so what a treat) if anybody of you feel like tweeting your MP please do :)

It's almost enough to make me listen to Depeche Mode.
That was what the upstairs neighbour came down to complain about the other night.
Beware Depeche Mode. -

might be more dying than included as not all dead are being tested or it is being attributed to other conditions such as pneumonia
When you are balls deep in the biggest state crack down on, well, life as we’ve know it since world war 2, you can bet that every death plausibly attributable to Corona will be absolutely be attributed to Corona.

Needed some toothpaste and exercise.
Stratford Westfield M&S, Boots, Superdrug and Waitrose are open.
Boots have red spots on the ground and are operating one in, one out.
Security everywhere too.Its a 5K hike down the Lea from mine but its way less crowded than the Aldi next door.
Bonus you can wash your hands on the way in and out.

Consequences on crime according to this in Guardian:
The coronavirus crisis has led to a drop in recorded crime, by as much as 20% in some areas...
“Some people rely on shoplifting to fund their drug habit. That’s harder as the shops are closed.”...
“There is less violence from pub fights, less burglaries as everyone is at home.”...
The chief constable said he was worried about prisoners being released early from jail...My preference would be that they aren’t released early but it’s not my decision...

Nice! That is the kind of thing that will definitely have an impact vs letting everyone pile in as they please. And it doesn't keep you from going to the shop, it just makes the process safer for everybody.

I wonder how many people with underlying health conditions will now live longer due to not constantly being surrounded by germy people? The overall population mortality stats are going to be all over the place I'd have thought.
Will also be interesting to see how many tendon injuries/heart attacks have been incurred as parents try to keep up with Joe Wicks in the morning. It's quite a work out.

I've been considering starting an 'Unintended Consequences' thread for this kind of stuff.

It's still exactly like that... Honest...

Just been to OKR Lidl. So nice and quiet, shelves pretty much fully stocked. Would appear the hoarders have completed their hoards.

Can confirm.

complain about the other night.
Not loud enough?
-
• #7822
Oh please let that be true for our local supermarkets too... I'll need to get some of the usual resupplies, i.e. bread, milk, eggs, fresh veg etc. the day after tomorrow at the absolute latest. It would be so nice to just be able go for a normal shop just like we all used to do. Maybe I can even buy my gf some flour!

learn from these extraordinary weeks.
