And I practice wheelies in the garage in between eating biscuits.

Sounds like a win to me

Anyone here have an elite direto? I can't seem to make it find the trainer to calibrate, it's annoying as I feel it's skewed off...

W/Kg is stupid anyways. You can have 4w/kg and be a very tiny guy or a big, strong dude. See who's faster.
-
• #2757
depends what type of riding you're doing surely? no one claims that w/kg is the be all and end all but it's far from stupid

m8 did you see nibali attack on that roubaix stage in TDF couple of years ago?

Thanks - weirdly I don't get those options on the elite app, the "configure" button never takes me through to those options.
Will contact elite and see what they have to say, just wondered if anyone else had had the same struggle

W/kg means little for near flat TT-ing, you need a high W/CdA for that and it's much easier to measure kg than it is CdA.
It's like BMI; it's a simple measure that is quite flawed and there are much better measures, but it's the easiest thing that people can measure with simple bits of equipment available in most homes (a tape measure and some scales).

Spent ages trying to figure out my FTP using a tape measure, just can’t get my head around it.

Hmm, it's an old video so I'm not sure. I have the same turbo and couldn't work it out either.
There's a facebook group which may be helpful

Power meters are a generic household commodity no?
(I meant it's easier, assuming you have a power meter, to work out W/kg than it is W/CdA like it's easier to work out BMI than it is to work out the far better measure of BVI.)

Tah - will give that a shot. Good to know it's not just me!
-
• #2766
I know that!
I’m all about w/kg anyway. CdA can do one.

CdA is important for me and you can often get that down a lot quicker then your ftp/w/kg up and you go way faster. At a duathlon last year i was the fastest bike by over 2 and a half minutes over 40k. I put out 279 w at 65 kg and the guy in second put out 336w at 81kg so almost the same w/kg so either CdA makes a huge difference or the other guy was telling porkies about his numbers? Has anyone used anything like the new aero/power pods? The measure both and aren't expensive to buy at around half the price of a one off wind tunnel/velodrome aero testing session so there must be some catch right?

CdA is key for static turbo training.

All depends on what setting you have your fan on, right?

Any positional changes I've been given have to be followed by many hours on the turbo to make sure i can hold the position for hours at a time and put out good power
-
• #2773
Totally.
I'm old school though, my kids are fanning me with ostrich feathers. It requires some really arcane calculations to get my CdA right. -
• #2774
(i'm only joking. I appreciate how beneficial CdA is for TT. And I know how hard it is to get into the best aero position)

Unless I can make BIG GAINS a fan seems redundant.
That's nuts.
I'm about 10kg heavier these days, doesn't help with the numbers.
