Strange. Are you running Dropbox? Mine goes nuts every now and again so gotta reset all the local & sync file settings
-
• #15304
No, not sure what is going on... might have to format the whole thing 😅

You could use Grand Perspective to work your way through your disk and see where the big files are. I find it very useful for getting an overview:
http://grandperspectiv.sourceforge.netCould take a while, but might be quicker than a format and reinstall.

As now working from home, i'm looking to use my old imac as the targeted display for the work laptop á la this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=119&v=fxzeX8909fQ&feature=emb_title
What are the trusted cheaper alternatives to buying the apple branded adapter and thunderbolt cable?

What's the best process to reinstall the OS on my GFs MacBook? It's a 2015 and starting to run a bit slow. Would an OS reinstall help at all, or are there better option?
And. Is anybody using an iPad Pro as a second screen with a MacBook Pro? I'm WFH and really missing my second screen and thought this might be a good alternative with a few benefits too. Is there any lag and can I drag windows / apps between the two screens?

There are none. Suck it up and pay the tax I’m afraid!

Can anyone explain why my mid 2012 MBA heats up really bad when it's idling?
When I don't use it for about 5 min the temperature goes up north of 80°C and the fan start to spin at its limit while the CPU load is as low as 5%. It cools down when I'm back on it though.
I formatted the SSD several times already (I just do once in a while for a big OS update) but it didn't solve the problem so I'm starting to think that it's hardware related. -

Is there anything kicking off in activity viewer?
-
• #15311
Nope, nothing. That's why I'm so confused

Have you tried this? I tried using Duet Display but never got it working well, always a bit of a lag or strange screen res

First I'd check how much space is left on the drive / tidy up and delete all the things / apps that are not needed anymore (Macs tend to slow down severly if their primary volume is full / near full).

Full of dust and shit?

Have you tried this?
no

Nope, it's really clean. And it wouldn't make any sense that it starts heating up when it's being left unused. Maybe my MBA is just an attention whore

You don’t have any of those apps installed where you donate cpu cycles while the computer idles? I tried that years ago and it went ape every time I left it alone

I use my 2019 iPad Pro as my second screen using Sidecar - got OneNote, Spotify & Whatsapp on there and it works perfectly.
Setup...
iPad Pro keyboard even works on Mac apps if needed.

Neat!
Give it a year or two and the MacBook will be the second screen to the iPad
-
• #15321
Yeah.
Wish i'd bought the 12.9" iPad Pro instead of the 10" now as the new keyboard / mouse thing could mean i can replace the laptop...
Still tempted to buy one when they're about.

I'm tempted on the 12.9 as well. Gonna give it a try at an Apple store as soon as this germ fest has ended. I'd like to use it for retouching, would be nice to get away from the main computer a bit more

Currently working from home trying to do 3D rendering on my iMac i5 processor- normally i would have been at work with the Windows i9. Some considerably difference I can say. Currently trying to get a render farm account set up.

weird of apple to launch the new iPad and keyboard at a time when no reviewers can comment on the new keyboard as theyre not being sent them.
i want to see them together god dammit

Open it up and vacuum it. When I opened my MBA to change the battery, it was full of dust and crud. Half of the fans were blocked and the CPU had a big ball of fluff around it.
Not embarrassing - I've no idea either :)
