  • Yeah I feel bad being on the 'side' of Trump on this. But it definitely comes across as a bit of click-bait with little substance to me.

  • Out of interest, how do you think it should have been reported?

I've looked for what is clickbaity and just cant see it.

POTUS makes false claim about dangerous drug. (Clearly stupid) people take drug and die.

It's not false to attribute this to him. More than one person heard what he said and did something stupid as a result. If he hadn't have lied about the drug it wouldn't have happened.

It's not blaming him for their actions but reporting that the "victims" said he was the trigger.

  • Sub-heading:

Wife survives after couple in their 60s ingested chloroquine phosphate, which Trump falsely claimed was approved to treat coronavirus

    Main article:

A Phoenix-area man has died and his wife was in critical condition after the couple took chloroquine phosphate, an additive used to clean fish tanks that is also found in an anti-malaria medication touted by Donald Trump as a treatment for Covid-19.

The heading makes it sound like the guy took what Trump had spoken about as a potential cure. When in fact he took a fish cleaning additive which is similar chemically to an ingredient used in medication used for treating malaria (which Trump is touting as a cure for Covid-19, we can all agree that this wrong).

This is a bit different from Trump recommending someone take an untested treatment, and dying as a result (having not been deemed fit for human consumption). Instead, this is someone ingesting something not fit for human consumption which has some similar chemicals as a treatment that is fine for human consumption, but untested as a cure to an ailment.

Apologies if that's a bit rambly, but it's not a straightforward situation and neither is my thought process.

In terms of how I think it should be reported, "Trump recommends anti-malaria treatment for Covid-19, man dies after ingesting fish tank cleaning chemical mistaking it for said treatment due to it containing a common ingredient". Not as catchy mind you.
