• I'm in a dilemma, well probably not.
Have a bike shop full of customer bikes (probably around 15 good to go, 10 needing stuff done), almost all of them have identified themselves as key workers (most in the local hospitals, some from nhs Scotland offices etc), a few are just randoms.
Guess finish them off and get them collecteded then close totally is the correct thing to do.
However have more booked in Thur + fri, a large proportion will also be key workers (folk trying to get to their place of work without using public transport). Other bike shops will be the same I guess.

  • Stay open and only fix bikes for essential workers.

  • Stay open for appointment only. Key workers book time to drop off/pick up. Card only etc.

  • Yep. I had to contact a 3 week list to call off all services. We've had an astonishingly busy few days with a lot of difficulty trying to highlight to people to keep proper etiquette to the point of telling people off.
I tried to highlight to the uppers that we should close doors but only be, by confirmed appointment, that we service bikes for those that are properly essential with credentials. Fell flat.
Irony behind all this is company was shutting us down as a business but all of a sudden their other subsidiaries are faltering and we're doing ok.

Do I think cycle shops are necessary. No. Do I think we can serve a purpose to those who are really helping out at this time and need it. Yes.
