  • I think the preferred approach is to take an inclusive course where you’re shown all the techniques, and come away with a finished working watch. Much like a framebuilding course. I have seen some in the past but have no idea what’s a good one.

  • I have bought a couple of old mechanicals from eBay and have started taking them to bits.

    Very therapeutic in these stressful times and learning lots from it.

  • What I did is get an old Seiko with a 7S26 movement from eBay and follow http://www.clockmaker.com.au/diy_seiko_7s26/

  • Yes. I did a paid for online course that teaches you to disassemble, clean, oil and reassemble common movements. It was very good. Will dig out some details for you.
