We were about a week ahead of the govt. cancelled all our plans, locked ourselves down.
I think the govt. can only do what the people give them ‘permission’ to do in this case. Doesn’t matter who is in power. It’s not a war in a far flung land that’s ‘easy’ to understand and get behind (or reject).
Perhaps a potential miscalculation was not stoking fear and concern earlier to mentally prepare people for what might / is coming and better soften them up for the sacrifices they now need to make.

As velocio said this should be relatively easy to measure and at present we are on a steeper trajectory than Italy.

How likely is this to spread between person to person in, say, a moderately busy park?

Depends how much stuff there is to touch. I'd assume right now that kids playground items are riddled.

If you were wondering, the herd immunity strategy was championed by Dom

Quelle surprise.
Cummings in Dr Strangelove, or how I learned to stop worrying and love the Coronavirus.

I don't think they would've been as obsessed as Johnson is with curbing individual freedom.

Yes I guess that wouldn't have been an ideological struggle.

All this stuff about 'permission', 'behavioural science' and 'were not South Korea' is bollocks.
Real leaders lead in a time of crisis. You can't fucking focus group a response.
What we have seen to date is that the government have been slow to understand the scale of it, and have had to ditch their initial public health and economic strategy. They are getting somewhere on the economy, but still haven't intervened strongly enough or communicated clearly enough on public health.

Surely surely more generally focussed towards a common social good - way sooner - rather than economy first. Cannot but think classic Dom is revelling in the game of it and Boris is secretly thrilled he can do Churchill.

I had a similar thought about the person filming on Pen Y Pass

100% agree

Do you have dubtap on ignore?

Except Churchill was a world historical genius and Boris is a second rate fraud.
That people think this government are doing ok can only be explained by how low our expectations are of effective political leadership.

I'm sure you know this, but South Korea has been on a permanent war footing since the 50s. Their people literally live in fear of invasion from the North - they do what their government tells them. They have mandatory male conscription and 15% of their huge GDP is spent on defence. They've had a coup d'etat in living memory. They've also benefitted from experience of SARS and being inclose proximity to nations that has also had previous experience.
We can't magic this in to the national psyche.

Yeah I agree but in a fight between a government and 60m disinterested people, guess who wins? Unless the army comes out but by that time you've already lost.

If everyone just listened to the advice we'd be better off.
Lozzles...

The PM could at least try! I've watched all the press conferences and the communication has been shambolic.

I agree . Enough with the recommendations. People are people they don’t listen. If it’s as bad as they say bring the robocops out.

Depends if he's posting pics of his trainer collection or not.
I hadn't clicked on his link, then got temporarily distracted.

I think now, or in the next couple of weeks, the govt. will be able to put the hammer down without some horrific societal backlash or revolt within their own party.
Hold on tight.

We Zoomed with a bunch of friends last night, two of them live in Hove and one said she was going to go for a run along the seafront but there were so many people she took one look and turned back. Weirdly she said the beach itself was empty.

Phone out filming while behind the wheel 🤔?
Also is it me or does he cut off some old guy trying to cross at 19s?
Obviously a wanker.

I don't know how people can think Boris is doing a good job, on Friday he told the nation it's OK to go and visit elderly parents for Mothers Day against Government advice and then issues a statement last night at 10pm saying people shouldn't visit parents, shambles #ditheranddelay
Other than food shopping about 10 days.
