Probably not the cheapest option but many of London's food suppliers are switching to retail - the restaurants are closed and they have supply chains and cash flow to maintain. Ortaggi and Smith & Brock are definitely doing it - pre prepared boxes/bundles for home delivery.

What do you know of their self preservation?
Well the general riding style/nature of the job.
The point is food distribution to supermarkets is a key worker. A fast food worker isn't...

Coronanecdote time (and fuel to the fire, for which I apoolgise in advance)
Sister-in-law is an ITU nurse, which is pretty front-line at the moment.
The PPE situation is jokes - She has to launder her own scrubs, otherwise they will go missing in the hospital laundry.
Admin (lel) has asked her to re-use facemasks...
She reckons that their c19+ve capacity will be reached within a week.
More positively, people are otherwise staying away from the hospital.

This post reminded me about my neighbour.
She's an ITU nurse also but isn't able to be involved in this because she's disabled and has lung problems herself. She is beside herself that she can't be side by side with her team.

Taking risks ≠ Being unaware of the risks.
I suggest you give it a go, it’s easily done, before talking down.

My local hospital usually utilises a large number of volunteers over the age of 70. Of course these were sent home weeks ago causing issues like this.

Good news. Me and the kids beat the outbreak in Pandemic Legacy today, and that doesn't happen often. Sadly Asia succumbed to the zombie hoards before we could find the cure though.

My sister is a nurse working in the community. She expects most of her caseload to be covid related within the coming weeks. I asked her whether she was being provided with proper/any PPE and she just laughed bitterly.

Someone I know spotted a car that was full of stuff, I've wondered how long before the window gets smashed and stuff taken by another person trying to hoard everything as if leaving a phone on the seat was enough before then a 4 pack of bog roll and some pasta will look like a gold bar.
Mrs M is a carer and always leaves her hand sanitiser and wet wipes on the front passenger seat. She actually sent me out this afternoon to put them in the glove compartment out of sight.

Desperate to get out of the house, I went for a short solo pootle around the sinner Circle of Regents Park.
Not many out and all either solos like me or pairs who generally looked as if they might well cohabit. A couple of families on bikes as well. Walkers were mainly in ones or twos. Not much traffic.
And then five young men on road bikes came along chatting loudly. I was deliberately riding slowly as I am still recovering. They sat on my wheel for almost a lap and then overtook me. I braked and let them go on.
Sadly it is people like that who will get cycling banned and ruin it for everyone.
By their riding gear, it is probable that they were all fair weather irregular cyclists (all in shorts without leg or knee warmers and one in a polka dot KoM jersey) but still cyclists to the rest of the world.
I feel like a grumpy old man writing this. Perhaps I am.

More anecdote. My sister is a geriatrician in a London hospital. She is concerned with the lack of social care which impacts on hospital beds, and if this has been properly understood by those making strategic decisions. Also that the NHS only just holds itself together in a normal year. My other sister is a palliative care specialist and while preparing to be called on to do hospital frontline stuff (she only switched from being a hospital doctor recently) she pointed out that all the frontline workers whether trained or not are going to be dealing with a lot of death and grieving families, as well as lonely deaths, and the weirdness of masks and distancing. (I may have somewhat un-anonymised myself there.)

Historically, either they don't know, or they don't care. Now the spotlight is on them, it may change.
My mother-in-law was in and out of hospital in her final couple of years. While the standard of care from the medical staff & social care staff in isolation was beyond reproach, the lack of joined up & end-to-end care was terrifying, and this for a woman that had a proper care plan in place outside of hospital.
At one point, she was in for 4 weeks, with the admin snafu putting her at increased risk of hospital borne infections & continuity breaks in her medication regimen*.
At the time, it brought home just how fragile the system is, and that people vulnerable because of their age are a bit fucked if they don't have their own funding & support networks.
Now, I just don't see how it's not going to result in hundreds / thousands of avoidable deaths.
* There's a story I don't want to have to relive.

Allegedly Macron called Johnson on Friday morning to tell him that the EU would ban entry to UK nationals if the pubs and so forth were not shut: https://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=fr&u=https://www.liberation.fr/planete/2020/03/21/coronavirus-les-coulisses-du-bras-de-fer-entre-emmanuel-macron-et-boris-johnson_1782622&prev=search
