Nope! It's surprisingly fine there. I'm not sure about putting it on the forks as those kryptonite mounts swing about very easily. The seat stays stop it from touching the rear wheel but there'd be nothing to stop it from getting caught in the spokes if it's on the forks! I've seen people put them on their seatposts which would work if your seat's high enough.

Perfect place on my retro Raleigh. Crank goes right past it. Very satisfying.

No seat tube bottle cage mount in this case but you could probably squeeze one in.

I only ever use the one on the downtube anyway, it's just for my everyday bike. It'll hopefully save me carrying a big bag to carry my lock. It never occurred to me that there'd be enough clearance to mount it like that. Thanks for the pics!
Have you got that spray reflective paint on yours btw or is it just metallic paint and flash?

It is the original paint and it is indeed reflective. A sticker calls it the Raleigh Reflex ‘Reflective Paint System’. I rather like it.
Edit: Pic here with flash. Doesn't reflect as brightly as normal wheel or tyre reflectors, but it is fairly visible.

Now I’ve got another pair of (even older, simpler) shifters, Shimano SL-AT50, more happy to dismantle the Suntours and if I fail I have another pair.
Thing is the new ones are natty as hell, would rather fit these. No indexing, just a click/ratchety feel. Less to go wrong. I use the Friction mode on the Suntours and I wonder if that switch it has makes the friction grip more dependent on a worn out interface somewhere.

I had these, lovely stuff indeed, very nice ratcheting, best feeling friction shifters I've tried (although I haven't tried many).

Thanks mate. That Slingshot is ace. Saw one of those in action when I was a youngster (back in 1993 when the World Cup circus came to Houffalize).

It was called a Joran XTR5 - TIG welded True-Temper I think
Built in '92 but for some reason it had horizontal rear dropouts...
I raced it from 92-95 and then used it for touring until the frame snapped in '99 on a downhill course - I'm sure I have some better pics of it somewhere.Spec highlights - Short cage DX mech, M261 rims, Xlite titanium bars & L-bends, XCpro microdrive c/set, Ritchey Ti saddle, Blackburn mountain rack and a Dave's Chain Device

Sweet, cheers
