Going on a group ride goes against the government advice, where they state exercise is fine with people you're living with ie. Not social diatanced from. But doing so with others is not.

A group is more than 1.
Unless they're member of you non social distance group, ie. People you live with. There is literally no reason to go on a group ride. So dont. -

The pandemic is a talking point to them, the advice a joke.
I put a lot of the blame on Johnson / the government for this. Without testing and therefore showing only a few 1000 cases it won't seem real to many people. The media really should be publishing a potential / likely number of cases derived from the number of deaths. Might shit people up a bit more.

Though riding in a (distanced) pair is sensible for safety. Probably.

Down here in Adelaide it has had a noticeable impact. Many people keep their distance. Shops, restaurants etc all very empty. Not totally, but very.
The thing here is that schools are still open. If my daughter goes to school with a bunch of other kids, it doesn't make much sense to not also let them mix if they live three houses down etc.
So by the same logic we also let her attend ballet class today. All of the kids there go to the same school anyways. They got asked to disinfect hands and parents were asked to only drop off and collect them, otherwise stay outside. People were sitting far apart. -

Maybe.
The Gov say
You can also go for a walk or exercise outdoors if you stay more than 2 metres from others.
Everyone should just go read it.
- if one member of your family or household has a new continuous cough or high temperature
** if you live alone and you have a new continuous cough or high temperature
*** noting cinemas, theatres, pubs, bars, restaurants and clubs are now all required to close. If you meet others when you are outdoors (for example, on a walk) ensure that you stay at least 2 meters away.
**** for example via telephone or internet
1 such as anyone instructed to get a flu jab each year

Group = you're a dick
Post a link to the dickheads
My thoughts too, though I even feel a bit uncomfortable going for longer solo rides, but may have to see how I go.
Not posting links

Going by this atm, from Gov key measures:
(Even with a cough or fever) ...but they may leave the house for exercise and, in that case, at a safe distance from others. Not that I'd advise someone with a cough or fever leaving the house but whatever.
Lols in the time of Coronavirus.

The link I posted is to explain social distancing.
If you have ANY symptoms you should not leave the house at all.
And need to follow this:

I’d not really want to end up in hospital at the moment with a broken collar bone or rib possible punctured lung...
Do you think that's a statistically significant risk if you go out for a ride? If so, then yes, you should stay at home. Have you considered cycle training? Once social distancing is no longer necessary of course.

I suppose the tricycle would be another option. Probably best to leave the goat at home though.

South Manchester has gradually come round to the fact there is a virus, one in one out at the butchers and queueing a few metres apart and everywhere noticeably quieter, lovely ride to the shop.
To add to that the best kebab shop is now only doing home delivery.

No but the risk of crashing and injury to my view, has not decreased, in equal measure to the increased risk you’d be exposed to on recovery.

Please don't encourage stockpiling/panic buying. See above comment about nurses coming off shift not able to buy anything.

Over here in Belgium the Delhaize shop gives nurses, police etc special acces to the shops. Also an hour a day where only the old people are let in. Colruyt is doing deliveries to hospitals for the nurses etc.

I'm the city official managing/coordinating it.

On the other hand, lots of areas now have civic help groups.
Plenty in Belfast with people offering shopping help, online gym classes, doing food bank collections etc.

You should see what Blackheath is like this morning.
Just took the dog out for a piss and there were at least fifty people playing football and other group activities. Including old folk watching.

Just had our surveyors round. They were husband and wife team, both around 70.
They had more to worry about from us, than we did them, but it was me insisting they were PPE (and to put it on properly!)

The solution is for all recreational cyclist to be armed with a pistol loaded with one cartridge in case they crash.
Seriously though, the reason officials continue to recommend outdoor exercise is because now more than ever they need healthy (potential) patients. Immune system, vit D from sunlight and so on. Cycling is a very safe activity unless you´re a dick. Just apply brakes when descending, slow right down for junctions, obey the highway code more generally and don´t be a dick. Not hilly enough where you live? Slap a couple of bags of cement on your cargo bike. No cargo bike? Buy cargo bike.
Then there´s what people will do if stuck at home. They´ll tuck into their stockpiled crisps and beer and watch Pornhub. Worse still, post on an outdated bike forum. Right, I´m off for a ride with the wife and kidz.

Given what I have seen in the last few days, I think a police enforced curfew might actually be a good thing

I don’t share your optimism.
The psychology of this conundrum is a perfect storm for liberal democracies:
To prompt action/alter-behaviour the most selfish need to believe they themselves will suffer as a direct result of their normal behaviour. Liberal democracies largely resist enforcing social order (so no or too-late use of law), consequence from disease are delayed and largely indirect. A subset of the ‘selfish’ group (the ‘unimaginative selfish’) will only believe in consequences when they see it happen to others. Then the toxicity of ^ this situation breeds authoritarianism.
Seen that this morning Lewisham High Street greasy spoon trying to bypass the rules. And Pure Gym was still open first thing when wife went to work.
In the supermarket queues a small child was coughing constantly and then started sneezing and cried a bit and some old boy went over and ruffled her hair! I wanted to scream.
