Would also argue that you can not draw sensitivity conclusions from this paper. Although would agree that no test is perfect :)

• #203
Sshh, never actually read the paper, only link to it and claim to know things ;)
Why would you say the paper doesn't provide enough to draw conclusions from, genuine question?

Cheers pal. I must admit the Leith streets have been a microcosm of all that is wrong of late; pubs packed, jakeys aff their nuts hacking lung oysters into the air, Foot of the Walk ‘Spoons with 50+ folk inside. I am desperately worried, not only for Ma.

That's terrible. Hope she gets well again and that you'll be able to see her soon.

Thank-you.

I have no idea whether it will help for people with covid-19 but I had (relatively mild "walking") pneumonia last year, a complication of ice damage to my lungs and some cracked ribs.
I felt very breathless at times. A medical friend suggested I try steam inhalation. It certainly FELT that it relieved the breathlessness a little. I think it was more psychological than anything but perhaps worth a try if you can face it?

Great tips. Yogic breathing?
Would it be good for people to use these techniques ahead if getting infected?

Awful situation - fingers crossed it works out ok and she recovers

5th day. No fever and feel less sick generally, muscle pain is all but gone. Coughing (mostly dry, sometimes with unexpected gifts) and heavy feeling in my chest still present. Hard to tell if that bit is getting worse or just the same as yesterday. Weather's nice so the kids have been out in the garden doing flic flacs.

Definitely feeling better here. Slightly concerned about food levels in the shops - mainly wondering what state the shops will be in when we finish isolating in a week or so. Nothing we can do really.

They will be fine. The only thing causing shortages is panic buying, which will tail off in due course.

Feeling better as well. Still get knackered if do even the easiest things. Heated some leftovers for lunch + ate them = an hour on the sofa. Went outside in the sun but the cold messed with my chest so got back in after 10 mins.
All in all, much better though and it feels like I'm heading the right way

I'm not really worried. There will always be something to eat. Just heard on the news that there's currently an extra billion quids worth of food sitting in people's houses after recent buying spurts.

Wait. This isn’t normal?

just want to share my own experience which has made me self isolate.
Ive had a bit of bowel trouble for a few days, bit of a rumble in my digestive system. I also experienced cloudy thought, a lack of concentration and making several errors inputting data on a computer at work over the last couple of days which i put down to anxiety of this whole situation and worrying about elderly parents.
Wednesday eve i came in from work and meant to get changed in to cycling kit and ride out to my workshop- its 9 miles away from home in the middle of nowhere, however, i sat on my bed and promptly passed out for an hour. looking back this should have been a warning sign, i never do that but i put it down to doing overtime every morning for the whole of the month and one shift that was 7am - 9pm building up fatigue.
I've noticed my hands & wrists felt a little numb over the last couple of days which again i put down to working in a cold area both at work and at my workshop. Thursday eve i rode out to my unit without difficulty then came home. Before going to bed i felt a bit flush in the face. had a restless night and heart was beating a bit quick. Friday - felt nausea, sore throat came on hard, told boss i was going to isolate myself at home.
We minimized risk as much as possible at work, our computer stations are spread out and we've all been cleaning surfaces and hands well. i've had very little contact with any other groups of people other than those in my Cycling club/work/home and nobody has presented any symptoms.
I guess the point of this message ive posted is that i'm pretty convinced i have this thing but no point have i coughed or to my knowledge had a high temperature. When i checked it it was slightly under norm - The 2 main symptoms we are supposed to look for. Singapore lists symptoms more in line with what i have experienced. Really not sure if i'm paranoid or being sensible, i'd hope the second but its frustrating as to not know or that a test to show antibodies is some time away. Ive shut myself away as i wait to see if this develops into the glass cough or not.

Had a shower today, made me feel miles better. An advantage of being the only male in the household is the large selection of indecipherable hygiene products available. Today I've used a combination of "dumb blonde" and "revitalisation a la framboise". Fresh.

Sounds like you’re doing the right thing! Rather safe than sorry on this one
Got a link to that list of symptoms btw?

Sensible, I should say.

i cant find it now, ive looked at so much online content regarding covid.. the was deffo a link to it from a major news site which mentioned diarrhea, headaches , nausea and a sore throat is some patients. Ive had quite a bad pneumothorax before which took a week of hospitalisation to stabilise and so far im nowhere near to taking little gasps of air. I actually feel like i could jump on a bike and ride ok, my airways seem quite open but my throat is sore as if i had a second lower adams apple - it does sometimes feel like its heading lower. Deffo get waves of headaches on the top of the head and occasional nausea coupled with weakness or a very slight pins & needles sensation.

I don't think you are being paranoid. On 7th March I woke up feeling lethargic and with a headache, then felt clammy during the day, followed by diarrhea in the evening. I developed a peristent cough and mild sore throat the following day, and I still have the cough now two weeks later. My wife has nothing but a tickle in the throat. Both sons (pre schoolers) have coughs. Our nanny has a cough, which progressed to shortness of breath the Friday before last. She is still short of breath now.
We have no means of knowing if cv, and I would tend to doubt it if it wasn't for our nanny having shortness of breath. However, we have been isolating since government advice the Thursday before last, and fully isolated as a family since Monday.
It is frustrating not knowing, and from what I have read the symptoms in mild cases are quite subtle and divergent. Not to mention asymptomatic cases, which my wife would appear to be if we have it.
I think it is best to be cautious, rest and isolate.

I had pretty relentless diarrhoea for 4 hrs last night - and achey and shivery. Puked at 9ish - slept a bit - been in bed all day - still got the shits - got a pounding headache - probs lack of food / dehydration maybe - definitely would not crawl across a field for £50 -my mum just called me freaking out about the report from China on gastro presentations- reported on the bbc - I’ve read the study- would seem unlikely I have it based on the numbers there. At no point have I had a fever or cough . Have to see how things progress tonight I guess ...

The shits and flu sounds like a horrible combo - hang in there!
Get some water and bread down and if that stays put add painkillers.

Fingers crossed all you suffering are able to manage your symptoms and quickly turn the corner. Mrs Pasty had nasty head-cold/flu type of thing 7-17th March then a cpl days feeling A1 and is now feeling like shit again since waking with severe sore throat yesterday (which has assuaged but been replaced with congestion and severe lack of taste/smell). I'm absolutely fine in terms of no symptoms - feeling a bit tired/drained but, especially with kids, going a bit stir crazy.
Anyone else wondering - was that horrific 72 hour shivering/sweating/shit fest I had 3 or 4 weeks ago Coronavirus?
Hi guys, just thought I’d say that symptoms are probably more vague than have been reported in some case series. My girlfriend has tested positive and had lethargy, no sense of smell, loss of sense of taste and a bit of an upset tummy. No cough, no fever. We are seeing cases of people presenting with runny noses etc, so this is not a rule out. I know it is tricky taking time of work if you don’t feel too bad but would urge isolation even in the presence of mild symptoms.
