  • Local Aldi had no beer in. Asked if people were panic buying but they said they weren't shipping beer as they needed the space in the trucks for essential products.

Many fisheries are in real trouble for similar reasons, panic shopping has forced the closure of fresh counters , with staff diverted to other tasks

  • FUCK yeah!

  • Praise the lord, might swerve the salad and sauce though.

  • I don't like to harp on but it is a week to the day that the Valencia closed all the bars and restaurants. I can't see who in government didn't think it would be better to follow suit immediately.

From every projection I've seen, one day of delay is devastating to the propagation of cases. So seven?

  • Their original argument was that it wouldn't be taken seriously enough so people would stop locking themselves away. The longer they could leave a full shutdown the more likely people would adhere. Or something like that. It could've just been them buying time to think of a response.

  • Just walked through Hither Green and the Station pub and craft beer gaff were heaving. It’s properly mad.

  • Can’t help but today announcement will encourage loads of people to go out for one last sesh, was almost tempted myself then remembered there’s a virus that could kill my family members.

  • It took 2 days for Spain to go from bars etc. shut to full legally enforced ban on leaving your home. So expect it on Sunday.

  • This was mentioned on radio 4 too!

  • Did we close pubs in ww2?

  • I know of a pub in South Wales that some of my mates live near by are selling off the beer cheap tonight.

  • Shite, ability to work totally remotely is now a curse as you have to carry on bloody 9-5 whilst a bunch of other people get a couple of months "off" on 80% pay. Shoulda done UBI Boris, you bastard.

Edit: goes without saying this is excellent obviously

  • You never watch Goodnight Sweetheart?

  • Yeh it’s a decent turn around when they were harping on about herd immunity a week ago. I am just glad they’ve done it even if it is late.

  • I'm waiting for the right-wing media's reaction to this flagrant display of rampant socialism.

  • today announcement will encourage loads of people to go out for one last sesh

That´s why the Dutch decision to shut boozers entered into force immediately on Sunday.

  • Ta. Hope it works.

  • £1 a pint in the pub I was talking about.

  • wfh serenity ruined by countless "mental health check in slack chatz lets play trivial pursuit u guise let's spend 2 hours sharing our fee fees lol" sessions.

    fuck off, i'm busy, yeah?

  • Not to argue in favour of it, but the idea was about 'flattening the curve' gradually. Therefore these measures were always set to be implemented at a certain time, not immediately. So it could spread in a managed way. Not be clamped down and stopped, just slowed.

  • We will know how that went in a couple of weeks.

  • Did we close pubs in ww2?

    No. Just closed the curtains.

  • yeah, again I'm not pushing that argument. I reckon there is a lot of confusion about this strategy and that also maybe hasn't helped it to work as it might have.

  • I hope they manage the take away beers better than the bog roll.

  • no you're alright. some absolute mince posted in the last hour or so as well.
