I don't like to harp on but it is a week to the day that the Valencia closed all the bars and restaurants. I can't see who in government didn't think it would be better to follow suit immediately.
From every projection I've seen, one day of delay is devastating to the propagation of cases. So seven?

Their original argument was that it wouldn't be taken seriously enough so people would stop locking themselves away. The longer they could leave a full shutdown the more likely people would adhere. Or something like that. It could've just been them buying time to think of a response.

It took 2 days for Spain to go from bars etc. shut to full legally enforced ban on leaving your home. So expect it on Sunday.

Shite, ability to work totally remotely is now a curse as you have to carry on bloody 9-5 whilst a bunch of other people get a couple of months "off" on 80% pay. Shoulda done UBI Boris, you bastard.
Edit: goes without saying this is excellent obviously

Yeh it’s a decent turn around when they were harping on about herd immunity a week ago. I am just glad they’ve done it even if it is late.

I'm waiting for the right-wing media's reaction to this flagrant display of rampant socialism.

Not to argue in favour of it, but the idea was about 'flattening the curve' gradually. Therefore these measures were always set to be implemented at a certain time, not immediately. So it could spread in a managed way. Not be clamped down and stopped, just slowed.
-
• #6121
We will know how that went in a couple of weeks.
-
• #6122
Did we close pubs in ww2?
No. Just closed the curtains.
-
• #6123
yeah, again I'm not pushing that argument. I reckon there is a lot of confusion about this strategy and that also maybe hasn't helped it to work as it might have.
-
• #6124
I hope they manage the take away beers better than the bog roll.
