  • I'm of course now worrying it's a festering petri dish of DeathZombiePlagueVirus.

I did worry about that myself... but then again it could be some form of built in mask?

  • You'd have to ask the otter

  • Ofqual and exam boards will be discussing with teachers’ representatives before finalising an approach, to ensure that it is as fair as possible. More information will be provided as soon as possible.

Little actual detail still. More of a policy intent at the moment...

  • Just saw confirmation that cycling as a mode of transport is absolutely permitted in France. Cyclists are separately asked to limit recreational cycling to an absolute bare minimum for personal wellbeing.

The confusion came from unclear statements from the interior ministry and the police being interpreted different ways by the media.

  • I thought this was detialed enough to be clear on intent./

This means ensuring GCSE, A and AS level students are awarded a grade which fairly reflects the work that they have put in. There will also be an option to sit an exam early in the next academic year for students who wish to. Ofqual will develop and set out a process that will provide a calculated grade to each student which reflects their performance as fairly as possible, and will work with the exam boards to ensure this is consistently applied for all students. The exam boards will be asking teachers, who know their students well, to submit their judgement about the grade that they believe the student would have received if exams had gone ahead.

To produce this, teachers will take into account a range of evidence and data including performance on mock exams and non-exam assessment – clear guidance on how to do this fairly and robustly will be provided to schools and colleges. The exam boards will then combine this information with other relevant data, including prior attainment, and use this information to produce a calculated grade for each student, which will be a best assessment of the work they have put in.

Surely even that isn't clear enough though?

  • Not really, it quotes "a range" of data, markbooks? exercise books? homework records? Online platforms? Coursework? pseudo-coursework?

It also states that Ofqual are going to make up some scheme to do all this, and further guidance will be issued. It's really not clear how grades are to be calculated

  • It's hardly surprising given everything going on it’s not top priority, it’s just obvious sound bites.

  • also saw a pic of a packed tube train as they have reduced the service, someone please tell me this is all part of the plan...?

There are a lot of people who work in 'essential jobs' who will continue to go to work all the way through the coming lockdown. They typically start their job at about the same time (8ish, possibly earlier), and they have to get to work somehow.

That being said, I do hope they won't reduce the density of service at the hours these people are usually commuting at, as that'll only increase the risk to all of them.

  • Well it's fairly welcome to hear what the plan is, the details are going to be interesting ffor those in the industry.

  • Possibly London riots?

Which had an equal amount of BS being posted.

  • Jeez time flies. 9 years ago... I was off on a cycling jolly while that was going on so I didn't see any threads at the time.

  • Yeah, still confusing as fuck. I suspect it will be limited to 2km from home.

  • People having opinions that are incorrect on a cycling forum on the internet getting you grumpy again?

  • In two months this thread has nearly done what the Vegan Thread has taken 10 to achieve.

Is there a way to sort threads by posts/views?

  • Yes, there were quite a few people buying in my local cornershop two nights ago, but the only shortage I could see was that (for the first time I can remember in more than twenty years of shopping there) they'd run out of spaghetti, and other kinds of pasta were nearly gone. Everything else seemed as if it was going to last for some time to come, although a family was buying about ten of those large (10l?) water containers.

  • People having opinions that are incorrect on a cycling forum on the internet getting you grumpy again?

I think this thread is probably doing more harm than good for a lot of people's mental health, to be honest. Conspiracy theories, unconfirmed rumours, and posts feeding a shared sense of panic. But there are also some great posts. Doesn't mean there isn't a lot of BS here.

I remember the riots thread dripping with reactionary classism that left a real gross taste in my mouth. And I was not the only one.

  • Oslo rolled out the city bike scheme a few weeks early this year to ease the crowding on public transport.

  • Got back to the UK from Ireland yesterday. We seem to be taking it a lot less seriously than they are.

  • In two months this thread has nearly done what the Vegan Thread has taken 10 to achieve.

We are weakened by a lack of real food, however. We can't keep up with this sort of pace.

  • It constantly amazes me what great people are on this forum with such diverse jobs and specialisms.

  • Yeah, still confusing as fuck. I suspect it will be limited to 2km from home.

    Jeez what a fuddle
